That would make Chris Tanev a 6/7 guy too.

Whitecloud the last three years ... 16:15 five on five minutes per game.

6/7 guys don't play 16+ minutes five on five per game.
If you're sitting on the bench a quarter of the season for multiple seasons in a row, youre low on the depth chart. Call it what you want

Edit1:

That said, the past is the past. It explains trade value, and I think it's good to keep in mind, so you won't be overly disappointed if his play drops.

However he's clearly a solid and useful guy for our team right now, which is the important part.

Edit2:
I want to also say that Whitecloud looks like the kind of guy a team in rebuild can use. Can munch minutes when needed and keep games from becoming jokes, without being too big of asset to hold on to.

(I wouldn't be upset if he's traded for more picks obviously, but you get the point.)

What?

He missed games because he was injured.....not "sitting on the bench'.

Vegas gave him a 6 year deal for a reason.

I stand corrected then. My google clearly failed me.

And Im not saying he was not ever benched...like most young players, Im sure he was time to time.

But he is a solid NHL player and has been for a while now.

Unreal OT winner by Wiebe (Reschny gets the assist).

Damn pretty good moves for a throw in. Calm under pressure. Decent hands. Five holed it. Noice!

Prediction: Wiebe signs after his season is done and plays 1 or 2 games with the flames.

That trade is just getting better and better. He’s actually in my top 15 prospects for us with those kinds of stats. He’s improved ever year. Would like to see how he fares in the AHL next year.

One of the quirks of Conroy seems to be the trade throw in. Obviously Miromanov was a bust but both Bahl and Whitecloud were seen as throw ins but turned into anything but. Maybe Wiebe follows the good trend and turns into a pleasant surprise.

I wouldn’t mind grabbing Verhoeff this season if our scouts deem him the BPA. It would be another ND player with familiarity with Reschny and Wiebe.

2027 is more of a year to draft top end forwards. I’ll still be happy to get McKenna or Stenberg if able, but I’m also not overly upset if we pick a top end D man prospect in this draft with our own 1st.

Wranglers more likely...

But yeah, they'll sign him before he becomes a free agent. They've indicated they wanted him, which gives them a leg up.

I like a lot of guys in the top ten so even if we end up at four or five or six i am pretty happy.

Pick of the best centers in a draft is something the flames cant say they have had very often. Think Reid is a top pair maybe number one D ? Ok!

I like the way we draft so whoever it is i will give them the benefit of the doubt even if it surprises me. Not everyone wants to sign here no matter where they rank in the draft and us peasants would never know but will definitely cuss and go him?? Seriously ?? However not knowing the nuances.

I don’t think Bahl or Whitecloud were throw ins. They were key pieces to the deal
Wiebe is probably more like that prospect that was included in the Lindholm deal. Probably a long shot to be anything but another guy to at least get a look at

Neither Bahl nor Whitecloud were throw ins.

Conroy and his team have definitely plucked a few gems though, which is the point that I think you were making, and it will be interesting to see if he has done it again with Wiebe.

I don't think Bahl was a throw in.

I remember the rumblings at the time of teams being frustrated that they didn't know he was available. I think Sec had a comments about someone saying Calgary just found another Regehr.

Less of a throw in, more of an e-bay snipe with 3 seconds remaining on the auction.

The narrative was that CGY "had to be" getting Mercer as part of the deal or it wouldn't happen. I think a few us said it wasn't going to be the case, and then some other "legit" insiderrrs posted on X saying the deal wasn't going to happen but I had posted that I was 100% certain it was already a done deal to NJ.

Sec broke the Bahl portion and commented on him being the next Regehr.

The Sec post at the time ...

Quote:
I got a text from a one of the scouts I communicate regularly with who said Flames win this deal 2x on Sunday.

"KB is Big, Mean and Still hasn't flushed out his body or skating. Defensively sound. He's on tough SOB and makes a really good first pass. 6'6 230 at 230, He's well conditioned and committed to improving his game and He will protect some of those high skilled smaller D flames have like Hunter Brzustewicz <Insert Drool Emoji> ...Tell the people in your neighborhood they probably just got Robyn Regehr."

Follow up text.

"Our group is jealous, because they were told he wasnt available"
Pretty much what we are starting to see now.

I don't think he was a throw in either. A young established NHL player with prime years left was exactly what they were looking for. Some people seem to think that Bahl was some unknown player that no one ever heard of before coming to Calgary, but he was starting to make a name for himself at the time already.

If Mercer wasn't going to be a throw in, then neither was Bahl. I mean, in a redraft Bahl's a late first rounder I bet. He's about 22nd or 23rd in games played from that class.

Yegor is 9th in GP from that class!
