So Steven Harper basically said separatism is despicable and no Canadian politician should have anything to do with it or enable it. Wonder if Danielle was listening.

Was that at the talk with Chretien?
Right after Chretien said this "At this moment, our friend from the south has created a mood that a Canadian have never been so proud to be Canadian ... The desire to have a referendum is very low in Quebec. I don't know what the hell is going on in Alberta."
Harper quips that he hasnt signed the petition.

Harper sounds like a bit of an expert. So no, she isn't listening.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Bill Blair resigned as an MP on Monday after the Prime Minister's Office announced that he will be Canada's next high commissioner to the U.K.
The PMO also announced that Nathalie Drouin, who has been serving as the deputy clerk of the Privy Council and national security adviser to the prime minister, has been appointed Canada's next ambassador to France.
It had previously been reported that Blair was expected to resign and take on a diplomatic post and Carney had indicated there would be "a few byelections" in the coming months — even though Freeland's seat was the only vacancy when he made those comments.

I think that even Liberal supporters would view this as a good thing. Bill Blair was awful.

The federal Liberal government isn’t considering changing the process for selecting judges after Alberta Premier Danielle Smith threatened to#withhold funding to support new judicial appointments if the federal government doesn’t give the province a say on who is picked.
In a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney made public Tuesday, Smith says the appointment process for judges needs reform and called for the creation of a joint committee to make recommendations to fill vacancies in her province.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Justice Minister Sean Fraser said no changes were forthcoming and he would “maintain the process” which has led to “stellar candidates being appointed,” including in Alberta last week.
He added that the existing selection process protects the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law.
“We need to rigorously adhere to the boundaries of the Constitution, including the need to protect the independence of the judiciary,” Fraser said before the weekly Liberal caucus meeting.
“These are values that we have taken for granted for many years as Canadians, but as examples around the world have showcased, nowhere is safe from democratic backsliding, and if we’re going to have a functioning democracy, an independent judiciary is a key part of it.”

That plus his prepared remarks at the unveiling. Talked about maintaining Canadian sovereignty and independence.

I thought most of that stuff from Smith was kind of pointless, but I do agree with relaxing the bilingualism rules for Supreme Court appointees. You end up losing out on high quality western candidates because of that, and apparently Trudeau made them more stringent during his time in office.
That stringent a bilingualism requirement doesn’t make someone a better judge, or make the Supreme Court a stronger institution.

When asked whether he thought Canada was "better served when there are more Quebecers in charge than Albertans," Trudeau replied, "I'm a Liberal, so of course I think so, yes. Certainly when we look at the great prime ministers of the 20th century, those that really stood the test of time, they were MPs from Quebec. There was Trudeau, there was Mulroney, there was Chrétien, there was Paul Martin. We have a role. This country, Canada, it belongs to us."

I know the Fraser Institute should in no way be trusted for anything, and their newest report(you may have seen the headlines) ranking the fiscal performance of premiers has to be one of the most amateur, pathetic, transparent, high school level, goal oriented analysis I have ever seen written. What a complete load of horse ####. Media should be laughing at this, not reporting on it.
"What well known metrics do we use? LOL, no. We just made some stuff up." Like having fewer tax brackets mean the are better fiscal managers...for some reason they never explain, but they like fewer, so that's better. 10/10! Guess who wins that one? She also must be a great fiscal manger for giving us a surplus in that period, that in no way was related to all things beyond her control, like short term oil prices. Nope, let's not measure reality. 10/10! Let's not look at 2025...might be something counter-productive there...
The whole thing is an exercise in publishing the agenda they are pushing, and that's it. Jake Fuss should be absolutely embarrassed for writing this. Have some shame, buddy. please.

They looked at the last fiscal year that has ended which is 2024/2025. 2025/2026 still has a few months left in it so it isn't prudent to be analyzing that fiscal year based on budget projections and not actuals.

Maybe you have completely missed the point I was making. Maybe.
It's that you can't judge a premier's own performance and rank them when so much is based on a factor they have little control over. Well you can, if you are pushing an agenda. But to put a ranking on it(and specifically point out that is why they ranked well) is akin to using astrology to pick stocks.
If you were going to rank something like this, you'd want to use factors like how well they've built the budget to with resiliency to adversity, diversified incomes, balanced revenues. Not just won on a good scratch card one year. But that's not how the F.I. does an analysis, because it doesn't fit with their agendas.

Doesn't like the subjective measures used in an analysis and recommends a different set of subjective measures instead.

KENNEDY: If Canada came to the US and said, 'We're going to 0 tariffs on the US, all of them are off,' would you and the president go to 0 tariffs and let Canadian companies and American companies compete on a level playing field?
BESSENT: Absolutely not
For those unfamiliar thats a R senator asking the Treasury secretary the Q
