A. The Rangers just did a good job landing a well regarded prospect ready to make the pro jump. I'd way rather have Greentree than some late first rounder in 2026 or 2027 that won't be a factor for 3-4 years, if at all.

B. Why is it a dumb place to go? The Kings are consistently in the playoffs, have a solid team that could be great with a true offensive force like Panarin added.

This makes LA a very serious threat down the stretch this year, and obviously is attractive in terms of climate and lifestyle for the player. If they end up re-signing him or going on a deep playoff run it's a win for LA for sure and isn't the worst for the Rangers in getting a young, league ready player with a lot of upside next season.

A 35 year old wanting $10,000,000 for 5 years? Lot's of luck with that one.

Panarin choosing to extend with a team that is about to lose Kopitar is certainly a choice.

Trade returns are kind of underwhelming for these veterans with lack of term and or trade control lately. Value of younger players with team control and the importance of drafting well just going up and up. I don't mind Panarin coming into our division at all though for the Oilers and Knights. Just too bad the Kings won't have him tonight or tomorow

Something like "how the hell did Conroy trade another team's player?" is my guess.

It means location was most important to him.

It was a big factor in him choosing NY. He wants the big city lifestyle

Ya. Sounds like he is more interested in retiring in LA than actually trying to win.

I love the call out in the tweets that the Rangers got the best prospect in the Kings system. So much for all those posters who talk about players not wanting the trade to gut their new team's futures.

LA just entered the chat in terms of finally finding that next level with a player like Panarin. I can see him performing really nicely with players like Fiala, Kempe and Byfield. An elite playmaker like this that can make everyone around them better should be a home run.

This seems like a horrendous return. Unless Greentree is something special

To only need 2 years makes this pretty low risk for the Kings. Maybe flip him in a year or two if it doesn’t work out.

They're ok up front and our division is a tire fire.

They just need a new center to replace Kopitar. Obviously that center should be Kadri and they should give the flames their next two 1sts and Cihar to do that.

certainly feels like living in the big city is more important than winning to him. Fair enough.
