Not sure if we’ll get much for Coleman right now, but hopefully something happens with Kadri soon, and maybe a few other pieces.

I can understand that feeling actually, but just because something doesn’t come to fruition doesn’t mean it was a lie. That said, some insiders definitely lie. Even the big ones, whether people want to acknowledge that or not.
But it’s all in how you take it in the first place.
Even here, I have a pretty confident sense of which posters are legit and which just fib it up for the attention. But at the end of the day it’s all for fun and nobody can really say for certain what’s going to happen until it happens. So let them have their fun and use it as something to discuss.
Imagine if we’d just spent this time discussing potential Vegas returns? How boring lol

I think Coleman is very valuable and should fetch a 1st round pick. He is the very definition of "playoff difference maker". Every team with Stanley Cup aspirations should be inquiring about his availability.

Why would you say that? Seems like lots of interest in him.

Now imagine a Coleman + Whitecloud package....the ultimate non-superstar playoff buff.

I will dispute this. If the flames are rebuilding (which they clearly are) he likely wants out.

I think Coleman will probably return something like a 2nd and a B prospect. It is still really good bullets in the chamber. Maybe retention adds a 3rd? Maybe changes it to a 1st. This is part of the reason why I am 100% good with Coleman not being traded, and instead being one of the solid vets to provide a good environment. There is nobody better on this team to do that besides Backlund IMO. You want a culture of hard work, playing the right way, and being accountable? That's the two best examples this team has.
Coleman has a 10 team trade list, so I would assume he would engineer a trade to a single destination, or maybe 2. That's fine, and that's his right. He could have signed anywhere, and he chose to sign here in Calgary, and part of his deal was his NMC. Given that clause - and the historical fact that it is rare that a winger gets traded for a 1st+, I am personally tempering my expectations.
Kadri is a bit of a wildcard. I tend to agree more with Nick Kypreos in that offers probably haven't been very high. That's 3 more years on Kadri who is 35 right now. Hopefully his offence ignites soon and he goes on a rampage, but I would be leery if I was a GM a this point on his deal. Hopefully I am wrong there. I would be happy with a 1st for him at this point.
I think Andersson's deal was the most lucrative trade the Flames make this season. Would be great to add another first - a first could be used to make a pick wherever it falls, or it can be used with the Vegas pick to move up too if there was a guy the Flames really liked at the end of a tier. This prospect pool is fairly deep, so I wouldn't be opposed to trading up now and then, though the Flames have been finding really good nuggets later in the draft too.
Hey, trades are exciting and fun!!

Doubt it. He loves it here, has stated it a zillion times since arriving from Florida, and we still need veteran leadership on our backend. He's on an amazing contract and literally is, IMO, one of the veterans you don't need to trade right now. Whitecloud and Hanley go before him.

Rasmus took full advantage of the opportunity. He got to see what a potential team would sign him for today, and he can use that as leverage in negotiations with Vegas
Smart move by him, not great for the Flames but it is what it is.

Maybe Conroy should start separating between friends and business? Seems to be the biggest hurdle new execs in the business world need to get past as well.

I sure would love to see what people thought Conroy should/could have done differently.
All this talk of being friends and not doing good business is silly conjecture.
As usual it's easy to be an armchair GM thinking you could have done better when there doesn't really seem to be a way for him to win in a bunch of peoples eyes.

Marchand pressured the Bruins into trading him to Florida.
On the 32 thoughts podcast Friedman talked about how he "fought" to go to Florida and Bruins had to move him there.
He told fans at a Panthers fan event that Boston had agreed to trade him to another team and he told them he wasn't going to report.

According to a report by @j_vmess on social media, former Boston Bruins captain and now Florida Panthers veteran star Brad Marchand shared a surprising story during Pantherfest this weekend. Apparently, he confirmed that he was nearly traded at the NHL trade deadline to a different team. He refused that trade, which led him to joining the Florida Panthers.
Revealing that the Bruins moved him to a different NHL club, Marchand said he told the team he would not accept a trade there and would refuse to report if dealt. Ultimately, the Bruins pivoted and traded Marchand to Florida. Marchand went on to win a Stanley Cup with the team and re-sign there this past offseason as a free agent.
@flatcatsandrats added to the report, noting that according to Marchand, the deal came together just before the deadline closed. “I got traded to another team about an hour before the deadline,” Marchand is said to have told fans. “When they called me, I said no — I wasn’t going.”

He also wants to win a cup and doesn’t want to be stuck in a rebuild. I said it at the beginning of the year, don’t be surprised if you start seeing more Weegar trade talk if they go into a rebuild

I think they can definitely get a 1st for Coleman, his playoff success and just the overall playoff deployment of him is really valuable for a contender. I know many are saying the bet we could hope for is a 2nd, but in reality, the ones who will be going after him hard can give us a 1st as it will be end of the 1st anyway and more a 2nd anyway.
As many of have said on this rumor thread, we can't trade all the vets - much to the disappointment of some of you. Weegar represents a core in the defence that can help mentor the transition to the youth. Coleman and Kadri are the next valuable assets that can be replaced with youth but both have also said how they want to stay in Calgary. It will be tough to see those two go as well (though needed don't get me wrong) as between Raz, Coleman, and Kadri - you have three players who stated their love for Calgary and that is hard to come by these days.

You have to admit though that the wildly confident armchair GMing/“art of the deal” nonsense that comes from people whose only negotiation experience is FB Marketplace is probably one of the funniest, most consistent sources of entertainment on CP.

So it happens to other teams too. Doubt that will change folks thoughts on Cornoy but it is just a fact about the modern NHL.
