Okay, so
A) Wiebe is a defenseman, and
B) Forget about when a prospect was drafted 3 1/2 years ago and focus how they've progressed since then. Wiebe has decent size and is close to .5 PPG as a defenseman in the NCAA. I have no idea if he has NHL potential but seems like a good addition to the prospect pool especially since scouts will have seem him a lot.
Geez, the Flames don't get a blue-chip back for a rental (in addition to the 2 picks and warm body with term) and then it's a competition on who can be the most negative.

While we're at it, I want Matty Phillips back to captain the Wranglers.

One thing I'll say... Conroy is pissed about the not being willing to sign anywhere thing.
He says he respects that, but you know he absolutely pissed.
He's probably been working with teams on Rasmus list for weeks now on trying to get the best deals with an extension, and then they just undercut him today midway through the process.
Conroy being so open and transparent about that makes you know he's pissed about it.

Denigrating the value of the return this way is silly.

It is ignorant too, the Knights picked 19th and 26th over the past two years. Not early but not the last few picks either. Odds are they will pick somewhere between those two numbers in 2026 and 2027 as well.

That's fair. I just don't see it as a really big deal either way.

They day they signed Marner I have been saying Vegas is winning the cup, hopefully I was right. It just seems so perfect for the Leafs for "can win in the playoffs" Marner to go there and instantly win a cup. The Flames having their 1st kinda seals the deal too.

If that does happen, at least we get their '28 1st as a consolation prize!

This is why I don't really get the "doing right to your players" thing.
At the end of the day, the player is going to take care of themselves first, before the organization. And the organization should be looking our for itself first rather than making the players happy.
I don't think anyone can be mad at Andersson for choosing to go to free agency. It is a big decision for the next 7 years and there are a lot of factors that go into it. But if I hear about Kadri deciding which 2 teams he is going to choose to go to, I am going to be rolling my eyes and thinking here we go again.

Again, I don’t fault you for your opinion on it and I’m not mad or angry that you’re okay with the return.
I just don’t agree with it being that good unless they flip Whitecloud.
It’s really CGY’s fault for letting it get to this type of situation again 2 years after the Hanifin fiasco. They were banking on good faith conversations and I was told both sides were amicable about it until the 11th hour when he refused to talk extensions with “anyone” but when he signs in VGK in a few weeks we’ll know that wasn’t true either.
|
I voted modest win...its just the circumstances are what they are. All those other offers are irrelevant. Expecting a player his age to just sign wherever when he has earned UFA status is kinda unrealistic TBH. I'm kinda suprised Vegas even offered that much considering the whole world knows what the guy wanted.

Kadri has to go to any team that isn't on his 13-team list. He has three full years left on his contract and likely won't sign another one, so no team is going to be worried about acquiring him as a rental.
This is a non-issue.

Starting with, if Marner does win the Cup, we're both glad it isn't with the Leafs!

What's funny is posters who were scared Calgary would actually extend Andersson and try for the POs, posters who said "trade him for whoever so Calgary will be worse", posters who said "this is dragging on and he's an injury risk - just trade him even if you dont get the best deal" are now complaining that the best deal possible has been made at an early time in the season.

I am sooooo glad this saga is finally over.
Flames got another 1st
A 2nd that might become a 1st
Another prospect to throw on the pile
A #4/5 NHL Dman on a decent contract that could be flipped in a year or two
Not upset at all.

Okay?
2024 Matvei Gridin at 28 OA. D +2 and he's nearly PPG in the AHL and wouldn't surprise me if he's a Flames regular next year.
2025 Cullen Potter at 32 OA D +1 and he's PPG in the NCAA and progressing well.
You're right, he's done pretty good!

Been out of the loop today
VEGAS? Are you f-ing kidding me?
Now let me sit down and work out whether or not this is a good trade....
(But seriously, enough goddamn deals with vegas after this. I hate them with the fury of Anakin burning on the lava shores of Mustafar)

I'm glad we got two picks.
The one strength of this organization appears to be drafting. This plays into that, so I'm supportive.
