Who cares. Andersson hasn’t even been with the club. If he decides he likes it enough to bypass free agency, then whatever.
Playing arm chair agent, I can’t imagine anyone would be telling Rasmus to extend before July 1 unless the offer was significant.

Pittsburgh got a 2nd a 4th from the Jets for Luke Schenn last deadline who was 35 and had only 1 more year at $2.75m.
Whitecloud is pretty comparable to Luke Schenn, but significantly younger and has an extra year on his current contract at the same $2.75m. I would have to think that if Calgary decides to flip Whitecloud at this deadline the bare minimum they would get is a 2nd and a 4th. I would expect it to be a better return than that.

Poll choice I went with “ Break even (expected)”.
If they flip Whitecloud? I’d bump it up higher.
Don’t want Whitecloud on the team. Don’t want the roster congestion.
At the end of the day you take the picks and move forward, that’s what rebuilds look like.

Reading this thread I guess Rasmus was pretty comparable to Bobby Orr so we should all be disgusted.

I agree and believe Coleman is moved, and probably wants to move. That should be a good return. Given his age and the term on his contract, I’d be surprised if the return for Kadri is significant. Hope I’m surprised, but the Flames are getting par level returns because the league has the book on them.
Regardless, if Coleman/Kadri are moved I wouldn’t assume the Flames are at the bottom next year. They are establishing a foundation so it’s unlikely they are going to crater. The issue isn’t that they have not moved in a younger direction, but rather in their window to where they weren’t competitive they refused to position themselves to acquire elite components.

It’s on Conroy for not having the foresight to trade Andersson last year or the prior year, after being burned by Hanifin.

If he doesn’t trade Coleman and Kadri this year, he shouldn’t be the GM.

Andersson made sure the Flames were getting a rental return but they did box themselves into a corner. So is what it is. Hopefully Coleman won’t use his trade clause to make moving him impossible

there are conflicting reports as to whether it is a 27 or a 28 2nd
but the 27 1st is conditional, top 10 protected
that means that if the 2nd becomes the 28 1st, either the 27 1st would become unconditional, or it would roll to 29, which would mean the 28 1st would be unconditional

The Flames now only have two players remaining from the 2021-2022 season.
Backlund and Coleman.
Fast-forward to 2022-2023 and the only players are
Backlund, Coleman, Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar and Coronato.

There is a reason he has the job, and you don’t. Also he isn’t the one who gave trade protection.

I don't think that's happening. I bet he signs before the Olympics.

I;m going to assume that the condition on the 2nd remains regardless of Andersson signing withe Knights? Wouldn't it be something if he doesn't sign there but the Knights win the cup and we still get the 2028 1st? Not sure how I would feel about that? Better? Worse? Ambivalent?

I know Vegas finds ways but how do they get him signed under the cap? I don’t think they have room even if he takes a discount at $7m a year with the other positions they need to fill, and they just traded one of their most affordable D.
And if they do win a cup this year, Rasmus will have his ring and has even more incentive just to get the bag from somewhere else.
At this point, it really is just a rental.

So, what if Vegas wins the cup in 2026 and 2028, I know highly unlikely. We got 2 32nd overall picks.

I still think the plan was the 24/25 deadline and then were suddenly fighting for a playoff spot.

My interpretation was if they win the cup this year... but just a guess.
What I more meant was that the 2027 first is way better if Andersson walks. We got the pick but Vegas doesnt get the stud D man to help their cause.

The rebiggle way would be to trade Brz for a center prospect with similar upside stuck behind better players (Bysdet, Poitras).
This way, you could use Weegar and Whitecloud to insulate Parekh on RD.

Maybe Rasmus wants to pull a Dougie Weight and come back here and sign.
