Weren't we ready to move on from Zary and trade him for the first 3rd round pick anyone offered?
Pretty crazy, almost like he needed some time after a terrible knee injury to get back on track. While he seems noticing slower he gets to the right places to generate scoring chances easy enough
It is funny how even though the Flames are near the very bottom of the standings, that there continues to be so many 'bright spots' on the team.
Backlund - he should be on Team Sweden. Hopefully they correct this oversight. What a year he is having. Coleman - injured right now, but another fantastic season and he never takes a shift off, and never makes an excuse. Zary - He is finally starting to produce and looking like an offensive player you want to keep for the long-term, rather than throw him into random trade proposals. Cooley - rock-steady and a great personality. Kuznetsov - looks like a veteran out there night in and night out. Bahl - He was much better than we all thought he would be last year defensively. Now he is adding a 'great ball of hate' to his repetoire (yes, terrible pun intentional) with trying to be physical and abrasive. Wolf - still looks like the goalie of the future. Coronato - has slowed down some, but he looks like a contributing top-6 winger for the a decade I think with his motor, IQ and shot. Rasmus - soon to be gone, but what a season he is having. Brzustewicz - Hardly ever mentioned, but having a fairly good rookie season so far. Better defensively than I thought he would be off the bat. Shows you what a year of development can do. Sharangovich - from "what do you do here exactly" to "worth every penny" lately. Yes, it has been a bit of a yo-yo with him, but credit is due for him stepping up and playing well in every way - middle of the ice, net-front, along the boards, physically, defensively - he is doing it all right now.
It is never as dark as it seems. I am really most enjoying Backlund right now, however. At his age, to be competing the way he is? He was also injured earlier this season, and I thought he was on his way to having a big down-season given his age, so to see him just doing so well is even nicer to see. I have no idea how many more seasons Backlund has left in him, but I am loving watching him compete and produce. Hope it continues! Sharangovich playing well with Backlund is great too - hopefully it will help Sharangovich develop some consistency in his game from the master of consistency in Backlund.

Zary has been fun to watch when he has a nose for the net. We were having too many perimeter players before. It's a breath of fresh air to see someone actually crash the net and make something happen.
Coronato gets a big lift from Backlund but doesn't lift Backlund that much.
If Coleman gets traded it's Sharangovich that should get that spot IMO.
And we do need more play driving centers. Kadri is good at generating offense but he's not really a strong 200ft center that is strong defensively and can drive play.

Pretty impressive that Kuznetsov is holding down 20 minutes per game. That's not typical for a rookie and good for him. I am so glad that he was able to sneak through waivers without getting snagged and then finally got his chance and immediately established himself.
Brzustewicz at 12 is more normal for rookie minutes.
Andersson at 26 minutes is crazy. Conroy should point at that and tell teams to raise their offers again.

Also loved this hit by Klapka on Josi, I don't think they showed a replay of it.
I can hear the kaboom, even though the GIF doesn't have sound!

Wasn't it Calgary that had a guy who threw multiple pretty dirty hits against us either earlier this year or in a game last season? Can't for the life of me remember the name, but pretty sure that happened in a somewhat recent game with them.

Such a fkn rat, not often I'm happy to see guys get injured, but that ####### deserves every bit he gets

Ah, yeah, that's the guy I had in mind. Thank you.
Would love to see someone light him up with a good clean hit.

Pospisil is a dirt bag but he's on injured reserve.
I'd like to see someone tune up Farabee for his cross check on Nazar's hip earlier this season.
Quote:
yeah, the guy who won't fight because he cares about his and others' health. turns around and swings his elbows when the opponent has their head down at his shoulder level. took runs at bedard and nazar, last year in calgary.
i do believe he's rehabbing.

This should be a tight game between two evenly matched teams, with only 3 points and -5 GD between them.
The best-case scenario is a Calgary win by one goal, improving Chicago's odds of drafting a difference-maker.
Quote:
I rather win the game.
Quote:
Why? What does winning the game achieve, short or long term, beyond a transient dopamine hit?
This team is going to finish in the bottom 5 or 6 in the league. Given that reality, better to increase our odds than reduce them.
If you want dopamine and no future, I recommend heroin. It's much stronger than watching a bad team win a random game on a Thursday night.
Quote:
holy f***ing christ dude lmao
Quote:
I, individually, hope they win every game but, collectively, want them to lose games.
If that makes sense at all.
Quote:
Best case for Hawks is a pretty competitive season and a top 5 pick, which is pretty uniquely possible in this sort of season. 4 points out of Wildcard, 4 points out of the Number 2 Lotto Spot.
Quote:
Agreed. As far as the standings, I have no issue with the Blackhawks this season.
I have issues elsewhere as far as NHL level development, but as far as the team feeling like they have something to play for while simultaneously keeping a high draft pick is a perfect storm.

Bad turnover by Burakovsky. Nice move by Backlund.

Shouldn't have been hung out to dry like that by Burakovsky, though.

Burakovsky.. c'mon bro. That was terrible.

####ing embarrassing effort from that first unit. Back hand passes. Idk what the hell Bedard and Burakovsky are doing

Burakovsky is a huge piece of ####. He needs to be benched for that

One of the worst PPs of the season there
Quote:
Burakovsky and Donato. Pure garbage
Quote:
PP very ugly tonight. In general it’s been a rather disappointing display by our team offensively since 98 came back. Where’s the speed and skill? I was expecting better/more dynamic and explosive looking offense, not saying anything special or elite but at least give me SOMETHING. I’ve seen basically nothing. Bedard is in a bad spot right now with Greene and Burakovsky(who has been just downright awful). Moore/Lardis haven’t been noticeable. Just a whole bunch of meh.
Quote:
This might be the first time I’m kind of pissed with Blashill.
The absolute ####ing stubbornness to not staple Moore and Lardis to Bedard on his line and PP is ridiculous. Donato, Burakovsky and Greene are not helping him
Quote:
Donato and Burakovsky are putting on a masterclass right now.
Literally the only two that have been consistently bad the last 10 games

Calgary definitely came out with some jump and ready to play. Hawks need to get it simplified a bit.

Man I can’t believe how bad Donato has become. Everything he touches.

Terrible period lucky to be down only one

Well that was a pretty pathetic first period. Calgary is playing like a dying animal, they’re not going down without a fight, apparently. Jesus boys, get it together.

Already the worst game I've seen Burakovsky play in a Hawks uniform.

Just a lackluster effort from the team against Edmonton and Calgary. No creativity, no threatening offense.

I did not have Devin Cooley turning into a really capable goaltender on my bingo card for this year. In fact, i didn't think he'd be the back-up at all. Great story.
I think he’s actually our best goalie. Not sure why he doesn’t get more starts
[QUOTE=Wolven;9623955]Pretty impressive that Kuznetsov is holding down 20 minutes per game. That's not typical for a rookie and good for him. I am so glad that he was able to sneak through waivers without getting snagged and then finally got his chance and immediately established himself.=QUOTE
I really wish that the Flames had put both RS RD Daniil Miromanov and LS LS LD Jake Bean on waivers to start the season which would have only cost Calgary a mere $750k in Cap Space to bury them both in the AHL. Calgary would still have both 25-year-old LS RD/LD Iyla Solovyov and 23-year-old LS LD/RD Yan Kusnetsov. They are essentially the same player. 6'3", 208 lbs. vs 6'4", 209 lbs. Solovyov is 2 years older and has a slightly higher offensive upside. Kuznetsov is younger and a little more physical. Bean is injured and will be a UFA at the end of this season and is unlikely to be re-signed. Miromanov is a UFA at season's end and has already cleared waivers down to the AHL costing the Flames only $100k in Cap Space. He also is unlikely to be re-signed.
Looking back, it was bad asset management by the Flames to not keep Solovyov.
