I could see both the Flames and the Canucks being open to it. And San Jose needs that stud defender they can build around. Might be the best way for them to get they player and for the flames or Canucks to get that top line centre in this draft unless Malholtra is that.
IMO, SJ could only be convinced to move Misa for a young dynamic dman, and Verhoff would likely fit the bill.

I've read Lawrence in the discussion with McKenna and Stenberg and some have Verhoeff #1. We NEED 1 of these 4 players IMO.

I think Lawrence will fall and you will see a top 3 ledge. Rightly or wrongly the lack of production from Lawrence in the NCAA, if it continues, will make it difficult to stay in that conversation.

With the new rules, the NCAA is a much tougher league to play in. McKenna himself is just over a PPG. McKenna is almost a full year older. Lawrence is barely 17 playing in a loaded NCAA.

Verhoff’s comparison has often been Aaron Ekblad. Not sure ‘dynamic’ is the term I would use.

We need McKenna. Stenberg is great, but what we need is McKenna. It is our time.

If Steinberg says that on air, then it's definitely happening barring any last minute shenanigans.

https://rg.org/news/hockey/nhl-sourc...smus-andersson

Summary of this article:

The Andersson market is heating up fast.#
Calgary is pushing to get a deal done before the Feb. 6–25 Olympic break, and both NHL sources and Elliotte Friedman confirm that talks have intensified with multiple contenders circling.
Boston has already put real assets on the table.#
The Bruins have made an offer that includes defenseman Mason Lohrei and a first-round pick, with Boston holding two firsts in the 2026 draft thanks to the Brandon Carlo trade.
Detroit and Ottawa are in, but with different constraints.#
The Red Wings will only proceed if Andersson agrees to an extension and have Simon Edvinsson and Axel Sandin Pellikka off limits, while the Senators are focused on adding a true right-shot top-four defenseman as they look to stabilize their blue line.

They are 1 day less than 6 months apart in age.

McKenna is "almost 40"...

Dec 20, 2007 vs August 3 2008? Weird that seems to be more than 6 months if I can count. Couple weeks less than 8 months? No?

The fact the Red Wings are even this deep suggests to me that they are not on Rasmus' list like I thought they might be. An extension issue would be moot if he was refusing a trade there even as a rental.

So not sure if he’s going to be here long. That opens at least one spot
Frost is in a great position with the Flames for an overpayment. Considering our C depth and our cap structure looking ahead a couple of seasons we are going to be struggling to reach the floor if Kadri is off the books.

Currently we are sitting at $49M, without Kadri that would be $42M.
2026-27 RFAs would need to be signed: Beecher, Stromgren, Poirier, Grushnikov, etc. All pretty small potatoes
2026-27 UFAs would need to be signed or replaced: Lomberg, Kirkland, Bean. Replacing 4th liners and 3rd pair D could come from the farm or the budget bin of UFAs.
2027-28 RFAs: Klapka, Suniev
2027-28 UFAs: Frost, Coleman (gone before then)

Unless Klapka really breaks out and surprises everyone, I think most of those raises will be pretty minor (if we even retain all of these players). Which means we are going to be well below the $83.9M floor.

We could pretty easily give Frost $10M/year and still be looking for ways to add cap to get to the floor. Maybe we give him $13M for shorter term?

Holding on to Huberdeau and Sharangovich's bloated contracts is going to get more and more important over the next few seasons.

I did agree, but with how this draft is shaping up, i'm less inclined to think that.

The ledges in the top part of the draft aren't as big as I previously thought.

McKenna is not a HUGE jump from Stenberg at this point.

Lawrence doesn't seem like a massive jump from Malhorta or Bjork to me.

The ledges aren't as steep as the Bedard, Carlsson, Fantili, Smith draft imo.

I'm curious why you draw such a line between them. To me they are a coin flip. Stenberg was better in the bigger moments at the WJCs.

What Stenberg is doing with his club play is pretty damn impressive too.

To me both are front line wingers. I'm happy with either.
Curious why you would see Stenberg a tier below.

This needs context - I'm pretty sure Wyttenbach plays in a much weaker division in the NCAA.

It’s almost like Kadri was trying to play his way into the Olympic conversation, and once the team was announced and backup players were notified and he wasn’t one of them, he fell off cause at this point what does he really have to play for?

I’m sure a trade to a contender could get his desire back, but it’s lacking out there lately. Watching him and Huberdeau makes my heart hurt cause they are both just coasting out there and it’s painful to watch.

We could also add Makar quite easily.
