As I cook dins here in beautiful snowy BC I can’t help but think that the process is similar: I can smell the food cooking…and it’s getting better as I go…but it’s not yet ready. (And, to continue the metaphor…if I eff it up…it will be burnt. LOL.)
Good food takes time. So do complex deals. Sip your fave bevvies. Munch popcorn. Watch a bad movie. Meanwhile…let the stew simmer.

Highest bidder beforehand. How deadlines keep getting pushed and we are ok with it is dumb. Deadline was last deadline, then at the draft, then 2weeks before the start of the season, then before Xmas roster freeze, then just after Xmas, then before Olympic roster freeze, and now trade deadline.
Almost seems like we are constantly making excuses against ourselves. We always say "what if offers aren't good enough?" Yet what if they are but just not super overpay that we are looking for?

That’s your fault for setting arbitrary deadlines
They were never the teams deadlines

I mean there is a chance Rasmus just says no to any extension. And we are left with another Hanifin situation.

Who says there are any bidders that have formalized an offer that has a pre-Olympics crystallization. And if there is, what if it's a 2nd round pick?
Deadlines are not "being pushed" by anyone except people on this site. Because there have been no deadlines yet.

Yeah, but, whatever. Is what it is and the Flames can only control what they can control.
Should still be able to get a 1st I’m thinking as a rental, just maybe no wicked prospect with it. And that’s fine.

The only deadline was March 7, 2026. The other dates you listed are just dates that fans were hoping something would be done.

There's a chance that he's said he is willing to sign with a list of teams too.
There's a chance he signs with CGY.
There's a myriad of probabilities we can go through.
We don't and will not know any of these until the trade is done.

Teams don't act collectively. If you are telling the flames you are waiting for after the Olympics, you are aware that your chances of getting him will go down substantially. The asset is so attractive that more than one team will jump.

That position has not changed substantially, if at all, at any point in most of the past two years. Arguably, the 25-26 Ras is playing better hockey than the 24-25 one and - even as is - commands a higher valuation.
So what, exactly is your point?

lol that’s not really how things work. They shouldn’t box themselves into a corner to make a trade happen. That’s how they would end up with a crappy return that I’m sure you’d complain about. Andersson’s value at the deadline will at minimum be the Hanifin trade.

Everyone knows players get traded as rentals all the time too, right? Nelson got a pretty good return as a UFA last year…

And if he doesn’t sign with anyone…we may not know until the TDL.

I don't know every year, the theory is that if you retain on salary, then that should increase the assets coming back, it just never seems to go that way, more like retention as a requirement to get the deal done.
Maybe I am wrong, but can someone show me me a comparable to Kadri, where the retaining team got significantly more than a first round pick

Unless it’s somewhere you don’t want to be, especially if the place you really want to go to doesn’t have the assets to trade for you and you can just sign with them in a few months anyway…….without making them give up good pieces to acquire you
