I wouldn’t mind a crack at Zamula. With the amount of injuries that could pile up on D, I think Hanley could fetch a 3rd / 4th + project prospect.

Just a pure guess on my part.
Yeah, makes you wonder if Craig is trying to do him a solid and trying to up an offer from a team he’d extend with. May have an offer in hand from a team that he will pull the trigger on that’s not on his list, but giving it one last push. Hopefully we will find out soon.

Since none of us actually know his list, I guess the best thing that Conroy can do is trade him to a team that has good assets to trade back and not take a second tier offer from a team like Vegas that has no good assets to offer.

Besides, sending Andersson to the Sharks or Ducks is probably the real 'solid' that Conroy can do as they are going to have longer contention windows than Vegas.

I would guess that even the rental offer from the Sharks would be a better return than the extension offer from Vegas.

I would like that trade to happen soon. We need to move on and focus on Coleman and Kadri trades

Friedman on the 32 thoughts says the Oilers might be ready to move on from Mangiapane.

Even though he has a full NTC until mid June, Friedman says there is an understanding that Mangiapane would waive it if he was going to a team that might give him a bigger role.

Maccelli, or Domi for Mangiapane makes some sense to me. Treliving gets one of his former players and the Leafs move on from a guy not doing much on their team?

I can’t believe players keep falling for the oilers promises of “you’ll play on McDavid’s line” or “you’ll put up big numbers with McDavid/Draisaitl.” It’s always the opposite because, once the 3rd period comes, it’s McDavid-Draisaitl-Hyman eating up all the minutes. The rest of the guys end up sitting on the bench. There’s always a free agent forward that falls for the pitch from the oilers every season (eg. Skinner last year)

One of Craig’s best trades. Getting a second for him was nice work.

Was a value pick and hard to argue against a 6th rounder that played as much as he has. But giving him that $5m+ deal for what he brings was a bad move. Hope Treliving brings him home so he can float around the ACC.

Yes but it’s on him for playing like crud and not earning a more sustained opportunity

Hilarious that they’re THAT quick to move on from him.

To be fair, he’s been pretty bad. Probably won’t ever be more than a 2m-3mish player with a rising cap.

Yup. But I'd also argue that this season is essentially who he is; he's about on pace (a little off but not much) of what he usually does. Everyone just gets blinded by that one 35 goal season - including Mangiapane himself....

I appreciate the fact that Mangiapane has had an almost perfect bell curve career. Got better. Peaked at age 25 like he was supposed to. Got worse.

Year | Points/Game
2018-19 | 0.30
2019-20 | 0.47
2020-21 | 0.57
2021-22 | 0.67
2022-23 | 0.52
2023-24 | 0.53
2024-25 | 0.35
2025-26 | 0.28

I thought he'd be a better fit for the Oilers, but I'm glad he isn't. There is definitely some Oiler hubris to think he'll be an easy guy to move. He has another year at $3.6 million. Teams aren't exactly clamoring for an undersized 20 point winger.

Mangiapane has played his way down the lineup. He had time with McDavid - according to Dobber it’s his most common linemate

Not sure it is how you’re putting it.

First of all, I doubt Mangiapane, or anyone else, ‘fell’ for anything. I also doubt, very much, any promises were made to Mangiapane.

He was provided with an opportunity. He probably had other opportunities but it was his decision that he felt this was his best one. As others have pointed out, he has played a fair amount with McDavid so I’m not sure what other ‘promises’ the Oilers could have given him.

I’m not in the habit of defending the Oilers but this is just common sense and probably how things play themselves out most of the time in pro sports. Promises are rarely, if ever, given out. Especially for middle of the line up players.

Mangiapane, Skinner, etc. in all likelihood (given they are adults) knew this before signing with the Oilers.

I'll always be a Mangiapane fan, but how dumb to sign in that dump and think it's a good move, especially considering the frequency with which they sewer various careers. I hope he can still bounce back somewhere.

I'm not going to criticize Mangiapane's off season decision really. I can't believe he had competing offers for that same money over two years.

He was bad last season in Washington. Worse with the Oilers so far.

He was effective here even after the goal scoring went away but that came alongside Backlund and Coleman for the most part (no surprise). So I don't even think we can carve out a role on a checking line that couldn't be better filled by a player making half his salary.

I would love to know what the market is for a below average defensively, 20-25 point winger making 3.6 million this year and next year. Might be able to move Mangiapane in the offseason, maybe. Not sure anyone is going to take that salary this year without a sweetener like a 3rd round pick.
