Yes please! He fits this age bracket perfectly and will be a good leader for the next gen.

Doubt he needs to be taught how to hate the grease pigs either.

Kopitar's final season.

They currently hold a playoff spot, and are winning tonight

Kopitar is retiring and they just traded Danualt.

Highly unlikely the Kings trade Byfield without a C coming back.

Flames scouting young players around the league/rumours going back to the summer we’re looking for a LHD could be on point.

Xhekaj + 1st seems like what an offer from Montreal could be (not saying I’d love it, but could be the type of deal we’re looking at)
Dodging the Hague bullet is good, not helping the Knights when we have their 1st round pick has to be the bigger consideration as that pick could be more valuable than Hague. Even if they sleepwalk to the playoffs, the earlier they are knocked out, the better for the Flames.

I think the need for the LHD is slightly diminished with Kuznetsov holding his own in the NHL. It could be a point of interest still for the team, but they may also think that their top 4 LD are big steady guys between him and Bahl and that it'll be hard to upgrade on them.

The need for C is huge and unchanged.

With the rumour that the Sharks sent a contract to Andersson, you have to think that the bidding war ramped up over the trade freeze to the point where someone met Conroy's price (and Andersson's extension price). Hopefully that means Conroy lands the young C he covets and Andersson gets his $9.5M+ contract that likely would have been expecting from UFA.

I hope Weegar is traded to the second highest bidder for Andersson as consolidation prize. We can retain 20% salary.

That's a crazy take.

He's one of the best top 4 D contracts in the NHL.

Weegs also is a great leader and loves Calgary. You need some vets, you keep that guy.

Yeah Weegs is one of the guys I picture keeping through a retool/rebuild, if you go full scorched earth and get rid of all of the guys who love the city and lead the team that does get you closer to a Buffalo rebuild; 10 years of never taking off.

Keep Weegar, trade Rasmus, trade Coleman (although my heart is tender), only sell Kadri if offered the moon and the stars.

Weegar is the next captain, when Backlund retires

I would trade Kadri for Mars straight up. Is Elon Musk thinking of buying a hockey team?

It's much easier to find a good veteran with leadership than finding high skill young prospect.

As long as his priority is having fun, the transition will be seamless

Byfield is big and young and is developing about how you would expect as a power forward. Looking at his career ppg, he's right about where Kopitar was at the ~300 game mark.
LA was patient with Kopitar, so I can't imagine lose patience with Byfield.

It’s definitely not easy finding a top pairing defensive veteran who wants to stay here long term. Losing someone like Weegar is a pretty terrible take.

3 points out of a playoff spot now. I doubt we will be sellers.

Wait what???? This is the first I’ve heard the rumour that sharks sent a contract to Anderson.
