What has more value?
Kadri (assume willing to waive) or Anderson (assume willing to extend)?

Only way to find out is to trade them both.

I think the teams that want each guy would have different assets to trade. Kadri would be desired by a team at the top. So they’d be willing to trade picks (but those picks would be later) and prospects. Andersson would be available to that kind of a team but also a team on the rise, like SJ. They’d have some players who have passed the prospect level.

An extended Andersson (somewhat depending on $$ of course) would hold more value simply because he is a rarer commodity as a 1st pairing RHD and also because he is 6 years younger.
Both guys are super appealing additions to any team looking to compete in the playoffs............ though not every team has a need for one or the other.

I’d argue Andersson, only because we wouldn’t have to take a cap dump back. Any trade involving Kadri will involve a bad contract coming back to us. And likely one with term, but also compensated for it.

An extended Andersson on a reasonable contract (eye of the beholder obviously) is definitely more valuable to the Flames than the remaining 3.5 years of Kadri.

I have to disagree, Anderson is no doubt having a very good season. But he is on a contract year and is close to 30. Anderson in 3.5 year making 8-9million+ a season. While blocking younger, less expensive d-men is going to be something I don’t to look back on saying ‘that’s just a bad contract now’. I want to see what the trade package is for Anderson, could be a more valuable to the Flames in the coming years.

I'm just comparing to Kadri though, and d not talking about their trade value, but their on ice contribution only.
Andersson for next 6 to 8 years will be more important to Flames than Kadri over his remaining term.
Of course he might not age well, but if we believe the Flames will be a competitive team three or so years from now, I feel quite certain they will have some older players on the team with a few years of term left. Every NHL team does.
I'm not advocating to re-sign Andersson as I would prefer picks, just saying that he could still be productive during a Flames window. Kadri won't be.

If Andersson would sign a reasonable contract, Calgary would sign him.
He wants as much term as possible, and at a pretty high AAV I imagine.
His last contract turned out to be very team friendly. Can’t blame him for wanting as much as possible on his last deal.

Probably so. Do you think Flames offered him an 8 year deal?

The last time CGY and Andersson camp talked extension (end of last season) to see where he was, I recall being told the number started with a 9
He’s not giving CGY any such discount, he’d extend here if we paid him 10+ mil more over his contract length.

It might have been team friendly in his eyes but this season is one of the few where he’s actually shown what he’s capable of and surprise! It’s a contract year!

Yeah, I love Ras as much as any fan but if he's asking $9+ million with term then the Flames should run away.
Four years from now Flames are going to need that money to pay star players.

Pretty clear it’s not a good fit for either side with Andersson. Like most breakups it’s a chance for both sides to find a better partner.
Hopefully they start the bidding war soon and get him out of here. That after hours interview and getting smoked by the grease would have been the last straws for me if I was Conroy.

I think tomorrow’s game actually makes a difference. If Calgary rebounds like they have done so many times before, who knows what the plan is?

Andersson hasn't been traded yet, not because of his performance this year, but because there is a sticker price on him no one has met yet. One game or some random interview is not changing that at all.
Conroy and co. have time on their side at this point and truly zero need to accelerate things....thats just fan angst speaking.
IMO there will be a lot of talk/movement right before the Olympic break , though injuries could change that timeline too.

We need to trade Coleman, Kadri, Andersson, Weegar, Kuznetsov, Brzustewicz, Coronato, Honzek, Parekh, Reschny and Wolf RIGHT NOW so we can have a chance at getting a 25% chance at drafting a good player.
