Dunkirk is his only good movie, other than The Prestige (which he didn't write).
It might be the most beautiful film made in the last 20 years.
The biggest criticism i hear about it is that there should've been more extras,but if you look at the actual photos of the evactuation, it pretty much looked accurate in the movie.
My only complaint was the Kenneth Branagh character, who was just there to deliver obvious exposition.
All his other movies use unique premises to hide an underlying agenda.

Yeah that is very jarring and to the point it could weirdly ruin the movie for me. Did Greek ships ever look like that?
There is a case to be made that Odysseus' ships looked similar, based on some googling.
The biggest miss is perhaps the "ram" on the front, which i thought was quite ubiquitous on greek warships (biremes and triremes). Square sales and stylized bowsprit is accurate.
I understand there are several other anachronisms with respect to costumes and how they were described either in the Odyssey or historically.
At the end of the day, it's a movie and also based on a mythological event, so liberties could perhaps be granted.
I also don't know how practical Nolan went with the ocean scenes. There are dozens of replica viking-style ships out there to use (Denmark has a few that they have even used to navigate sea/ocean voyages), and perhaps not many greek style "remes"
Probably worth accepting that it’s a fantasy movie with about 200 other things that aren’t historically accurate.

For the boat specifically, sounds like a Viking ship was used. Apparently he wanted to actually film on the open ocean and it is basically the only modern boat at that scale of its kind.

That's what I figured.
If they CGI'ed a viking ship cause they look cool, i would be a little nonplused
The one inaccuracy that i refuse to acknowledge is space scenes where there is sound. I don't care if they sound cool, those sleeked out space craft better be floating silently when filmed in space!
Everything about this looks like it's going to be the worst crime against historical accuracy in a long while. Those armours and color schemes aren't even a little bit in the ballpark.
I mean sure, it's a myth, but it's a myth set in certain time, place and culture. None of that gives me even a little bit of ancient mythic Mediterranean vibes. I really don't see Odyssey as a story that was asking for a gritty realism interpretation with a black and brown color schemes.
Kinda cheap and plastic looking too, there's game cutscenes with more convincing armor than that.

Not a great excuse. With a Hollywood budget, you could build a ship. Historical ships and boats are typically built by amateurs with at best a museum budget. I literally know people who built a viking ship like that on their spare time.
