This is kind of my point. Like 30 years ago he managed to adapt Carlito's Way and Jurrasic Park into great films (with heavy involvement of the directors), and for the last 20+ years, he's been causing absolute mayhem.
I think we both agree he's past his best before date.

Absolutely. Also, it being promoted as a comedy gives me hope we may get another Tropic Thunder level performance from Cruise.

What's the last movie Cruise did that's a legitimate comedy that wasn't just a cameo like Tropic Thunder? Would it be Jerry Maguire? That was almost 30 years ago.

He was actually in a lot of Tropic Thunder. Just as much as McConaughey, Nolte or McBride. Just his make-up makes him feel like a cameo.
American Made not a straight comedy, but a fun return to his Jerry Maguire/Rain Main sort of charisma.
It will be good to see him in a non M:I movie again.
