Yeah, it's crazy dangerous at times. I've driven a lot for work in my day and that stretch in the winter always seemed like the worst one of all. They can't build the high speed train fast enough for me.

The winds were so bad today that my patio heater got knocked over, and now it looks like it's wearing a crooked hat because the aluminum heat spreader got bent. Fack.

Don’t you remember 1914? Maybe you are a bit too young. Our wagons were all over the place.

I wasn’t in Calgary at the time, I was doing my part in the trenches at Ypres.

I think it's because its essentially a prairie wasteland. There are no windblocks, nothing.

That was one of the nastiest storms I've ever seen. I hope everyone made it home safely.

Stuck in Vancouver as my YYC flight was cancelled and rescheduled to late tomorrow night.
Time to find a hotel.

I'm told that there are some inexpensive ones in Vancouver's Downtown East Side.
Some of them are even canvas!

It tore the patio furniture cover clean off my front deck furniture, everything was all over the place, but everything was accounted for thankfully.
My garbage and recycle bins which were out for pickup made it half way to visit the guy across the street.

It would be like if the warden was waiting at the end of the poop tube when Andy Dufresne crawled out of it, just to send him back.

Oooh! Look at the Bourgeoisie guy over here! Okay...but you have to provide your own propane heater and hot-plate!
Also...I'd strongly recommend against the room service. Unless Fentanyl is your jam.

It was certainly an adventure. Had to go out for a few things and grab my kid. Visibility ranging from 10-80 ft, random sections of dry road to 3-4 inch snow accumulation within seconds, strong wind icing up wipers in record time making them useless/amplifying the white out... T'was honestly satisfying getting to the point of to weave around strugglers going close to speed limit who couldn't figure out lights or reasonable speeds etc.

I've never really taken stories about blizzards that seriously because in all my years in this climate, I haven't seen snow conditions that were truly undrivable from my perspective.
Icy roads, sure. But the snow itself hasn't been that much of a deterrent.
Today may have changed that. Drove the highway and when we were heading directly into the 90k/h wind you couldn't see 15 feet ahead. Just a white wall. For stretches of time that was pretty close to undrivable.
And it probably says a lot when the guys in their Ram pickups are slowing down to 60 and throwing on their hazards.

The problem was the big pileup between Airdrie and Calgary.

Airdronians...I knew it was their fault! Even when it was the Teachers and Immigrants I knew it was the Airdronians...
