Needless to say, so many flights have diverted and the airport has been shut down for so many hours that the cancellations will stack up and stretch into tomorrow and likely Friday before WestJet will recover all the planes and crews out of position.
Check your flight status before even considering driving to the airport for the next 72 hours.
Edit: not just WestJet. Everybody. Amerian, United and Delta all diverted to Seattle, Delta's Salt Lake flight just landed in Lethbridge.
Between Vancouver and Seattle there are thousands of Calgary-destined passengers just sitting around right now, but no plane from anywhere in the western US or Canada is allowed to even depart for Calgary for another 40 min.

Sweet Jesus. Learn how to use your headlights. So many people out there are completely invisible whenever some wind whips up the snow. And hazards are “ok”, but confusing when you want to change lanes and aren’t sure if the guy in the next lane over also wants to.

It was pretty heavy snow in Canmore, but died off by 11. So it might improve in Calgary soon.

I saw a guy driving without headlights but he had his hazards on. Genius.

That was a lot of snow to fall in under 2 hours or so, days like today make owning a proper snowblower completely worth it

RCMP have closed highway 2 between Stoney Trail NE and Highway 27 / Olds. Google Maps says until 6:30 pm which will be an absolute traffic disaster if true.
I hear planes again for the first time in 3 hours so that's progress on that front... all the inbound planes are already on the ground in Vancouver or Seattle so it's mostly quiet.

I was wondering what the snowfall was looking like in the Suffield area, while our event was happening here the radar returns in that area were red...

Mother nature seems to have calmed herself somewhat. Just one of those days.

My mom lives in Lethbridge and just messaged me to say downtown has the worst conditions she remembers seeing in the 25 years she has been there, so this checks out.
The aviation forecast still has gusts only to 75 kph so here's to hoping the actual wind is somewhere in between and not up to 130 kph.

Got a fair amount of snow down here in the South but the winds weren't bad.

Why is that stretch of road always the worst. Very close to dying on that part leading into Red Deer from the south. It must be a different pavement design.
