They are not trading Knies for Andersson...

If that is the actual offer it is basically Conroy telling Brad to pound sand.

Not that someone is going to give a 1st for them but they are recent picks so their team thinks they are worth a 1st

I don’t know, I consider that good value for Andersson if the Flames like Cowan and Danforth

Pretty simple solution here.

Kadri + Andersson for Matthews. Maybe even toss in Pachal or Pospisil.

…Matthews for Tij + 1st + 1st.

Easy mode.

Let’s me watch a future Calgary Flames “Iginla” at the World Jr’s.

It may be serious over-valuing your asset or it's the nicest way to tell the Leafs and Tree to kindly pound sand and pack it tight. Your pick.

Toronto is like the only team outside of Edmonton I don't want the Flames to talk Andersson with. That's about it. But I'll lmao if Brad nudges and throws Knies the Flames way.

As a hypothetical, what if it was Kadri (perhaps with retention) and Andersson for Knies and another piece to make the money work? Probably sending two firsts and two prospects worth of value in the players for a burgeoning power forward locked up long term. Curious as to whether people would feel that was fair, too much, or simply a no from both sides. Fits both team's windows better. Toronto needs to push now, but being so asset poor they have almost no way of meaningfully improving their team without using A pieces.

Presumably, Brad would ask for $20 in return. They could have Kirkland at a Costco price.

We probably get more in individual deals than a package. Pass from flames side.

Probably got sick of Tre lowballing and countered with that lol. Cowan is the only remotely interesting piece they have and he’s not that interesting

In a hypothetical world where that is the best offer, I’d do it.

It’s so important that the Flames move on from the veterans under contract in that age range (Kadri and Coleman) that I think that sort of offer would be more than fine.

The impact on our own draft picks this year and next would be worth it. We need that drafting opportunity to pick top-5 in back to back years.

Toronto’s ‘28 1st has big upside, but requires patience.

Jesus. The Leafs really don't have anything in the cupboards and no 1st round picks until 2028.

And, the only way they trade for Andersson is to make a hockey trade. Hence the request for knies.

I wonder what it would take to acquire Matthews. Vegas 1st, Andersson (extended?) , Kadri?

There’s no way the Leafs are trading Knies. He’s the most valuable piece on their roster not named Matthews.

The Leafs don’t get better and don’t get the best player in the deal. So it would have to be a much bigger trade.

Rasmus + Zary + Vegas first for Knies + would be closer to equivalent value IMO.

I wonder if it would make sense for Detroit to explore a move for someone like Rasmus Andersson, or possibly a forward such as Nazem Kadri or Blake Coleman. All three would bring experience and would be a boost for the playoffs, and Detroit appears to have the assets to make something like that happen if they choose to be aggressive.

That said, I’m curious how far they’d be willing to go in terms of futures. Would Detroit consider moving a prospect like Marco Kasper or Nate Danielson to acquire one or more players that could meaningfully push them into a playoff run.
Detroit should have pushed hard for Andersson in the 2024 offseason and should be interested now.

The main issue now is Yzerman won't want to trade for a rental.

I really hope as it gets closer to the deadline that Andersson maybe becomes more opening to talking extension with some teams.

Trying to figure out who LeBrun is carrying the water here for.
Treliving is pretty tight lipped around players he’s actually going to get, so unlikely him unless he’s subscribing to some free attention in the media.

Andersson/his agent trying to help form or expand a market, rental or trade and sign.

Conroy? Most likely, get some buzz around Rasmus going into the holidays.

A week or so before the Xmas trade freeze.

You misunderstand. The Flames aren’t trying to get Knies. The Leafs are trying to get Andersson. And the price just so happens to be Knies.

Calgary has zero incentive to add to that trade.

Most of Brad’s trade targets, like Jason Tucker, always came out when he was in Calgary. Suspect it is more of the same.
