When you price something at $30 and someone says “well I only have a $50 or $5 bill” then guess what, the price is $50.

What else do the Leafs have though? That's the problem (and why I think the Flames aren't the crazy ones in the conversation).

Well the Leafs have nothing else of any value. So the Flames would be the crazy ones to take anything other than Knies.

Fair, although in this case it's more like paying $100 for $20.

Pretty much. Unless the leafs want to offer up 4 unprotected first round picks. The price is higher for the leafs no matter what I think. The price is pretty much so high that they won’t do it. No doubt Treliving keeps circling back with more quantity offers (without quality) as if it was NHL 2K26 but that’s not how this works.

Because if said "culture" disappears as soon as the player moves on, then I would argue that "culture" is worthless.
As for the 2nd part, I don't think it was a case of impatience, as much as a lack of understanding/pro-scouting of who that right person was.

Well, it is clear that we start with different assumptions. You think that Lomberg offers no difference than Coleman or Kadri. I disagree. Yes, Lomberg has a ring, but he acquired it in a different manner than Kadri and Coleman. If we cannot agree on that, then the culture discussion will not be fruitful.
It should be said that I'm not saying culture is determinative. I started off by saying that they should trade Kadri and Coleman this year. I'm pushing back on the sentiments that it is meaningless or the team is wrong to value it.

That works if you are the only one selling?
But yeah, dont trade to the wizard unless he pays full price
You know he is desperate enough to sell the house to save his job

yeah come on now...Avs don't win the cup without Kadri
love Lomberg but he played on the 4th line in a handful of games
Coleman was big for Tampa too...top six in forward ice time on their last cup run with him

Yeah Knies is a great young player and future star but he's not 5x the value of Andersson... especially when Raz is in the midst of what's looking like a career year.
The Leafs have nothing of good enough value outside of Knies to offer for Raz when there's likely going to be a bidding war for him, so pony up Bradley if you want him that bad.

Toronto isn't making the playoffs unless they go on a decent run. Just like Brad to keep letting it be known that he's checking in on deals. He's a tire kicker, not a serious bidder. Being in Toronto is the only reason this gets mentioned at all.

They’ve got nothing else.
Add in the fact CGY doesn’t want to do Brad any favours and it’s going to take that kind of overpay for CGY to consider Toronto as a dance partner.
Typical Toronto media “we’re non everything” in play here, nothing new.

With Hughes now off the market, it’s interesting to look at what teams might do next — and Detroit stands out to me. They have significant cap space and could be in a position to add some experienced players to support a playoff push.
I wonder if it would make sense for Detroit to explore a move for someone like Rasmus Andersson, or possibly a forward such as Nazem Kadri or Blake Coleman. All three would bring experience and would be a boost for the playoffs, and Detroit appears to have the assets to make something like that happen if they choose to be aggressive.
That said, I’m curious how far they’d be willing to go in terms of futures. Would Detroit consider moving a prospect like Marco Kasper or Nate Danielson to acquire one or more players that could meaningfully push them into a playoff run.

But someone traded a first and 2 2nds for a defenseman that was worse than Andersson. So I don’t think it’s a stretch value wise (who is trading a first for Cowan or Danford?)

He just turned 23 and has six years of team control. He's a lot more valuable, especially if Rasmus limits his own market.
