Yes the Jets were popular. But there were other options than taking a used name. Flacons and Moose both had support and the owners actually owned the rights to Moose already. You suggested they had no choice. They did.

The reason they were able to have the name is that the NHL owned it because of AZ's bankruptcy.

At least you're not pretending this will stop the NHL from doing other activities. If you're going to be a mindless curmudgeon about it fine, cool, but good that you dropped the first part.

I didn't say it prevented them. I said they have better things to do, and they aren't doing them.

My main objection is that it's phony.

Which has nothing to do with this.

Can you just admit you were wrong and move on?

I'm not wrong. It was about 60% for Jets and 40% for other names. There would have been no "fan revolt" if they chose a different name.

And I'm sure of my opinion that this is a waste of time to create phony records.

You haven't answered - how many cups do the Ottawa Senators have?

Haha even the offical number is in dispute. Due to the challenge nature of the cup at the time some historians think the number is nine ten or eleven. And which years are you counting? Piror to the NHL? Prior to when they weren't even the Senators and it wss a nickname? When they were called Ottawa Hockey Club? What about their wins over mighty Thistles! lol.

The modern Senators initially raised nine banners to honour they classic counter parts, they added two more ten years later. Like that's how pathetic and pedantic your argument has gotten. You wanted to go back 100 years, before the "original six" when World War 1 was still The Great War.

I just posted an article that had the Jets at 75~%, and a distant second the Falcons.

You're talking to a person born in 1980 in Winnipeg, and moved in 1997. I love the Jets. My stupid license plate in Calgary was JETSGUY, which helped sliver track it down on here when my car got stolen. I am as good a source for this as you will get, and, I'm telling you that the Winnipeg hockey fans wanted the name to be the Jets. There was no serious 2nd place option. What is driving you to be this difficult?

They aren't phony, and I can assure you that to Jets fans like me, it's anything but a waste of time. We want this to happen.

Its really something when one of your all time franchise greats is Ilya Kovalchuk.

Nobody chooses Wpg. You just wind up there.

I just read one that the polls at 60% (Falcons at 12, Moose at 9, the rest were others). It was an actual vote, not a news poll.

Are you seriously saying the fans would have revolted if the name was different? Seriously? They were lucky to get a team back.

But you are right - we are wasting time on a Flames site about an irrelevant team.

Well, it's not admitting you're wrong but I'll take it. It's as close as we'll get, almost 75% there. Thanks.

The Winnipeg Jets are the Utah Mammoth. The Colorado Rockies are the New Jersey Devils. The Quebec Nordiques are the Colorado Avalanche. The Atlanta Flames are the Calgary Flames. The Atlanta Thrashers are the Winnipeg Jets. The Edmonton Oilers are No Good.

Conversation over. On to more important things.

Huh, you're right. Weird. Looks like the Jets are actually a defunct franchise, not unlike the Cleavland Barons, original Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Millionaires (among others). Actually, the Millionaires were never an NHL team at all, so they don't even get that distinction lol.

Anyway, none of those teams have anything to do with the Atlanta Thrashers / Winnipeg Jets franchise. Completely different entity altogether.

I, for one, am not looking forward to a Jets/Coyotes/Thrashers/Jets monstrosity of an entity.

The Coyotes did the Jets things, but not the Thrashers things or the Jets things. The Jets did the Thrashers things, but not the Coyotes things or the Jets things. The Thrashers didn't do the Jets things, Coyotes things or the Jets things, they only did the Thrashers things and the Jets didn't do the Coyotes, Thrashers or Jets things, they only did the Jets things.... holy did I miss anything there?

Don't forget about the Minnesota North Stars are the Dallas Stars and the Hartford Whalers are the Carolina Hurricanes. The Kansas City Scouts are the Colorado Rockies that are the New Jersey Devils.
