Jets, NHL in talks to restore team's original records

If the Jets had been called one of the other names floated at the time - Falcons, Moose, etc. would assuming the old records even be a consideration?

No one is suggesting the Wild should assume the old North Stars records.

They are not in limbo. The coyotes name ,team records and history still are owned by Alex Meruelo , who still owns the roadrunner. He kept the rights because he is still hoping to re establish the Coyotes or some form.

He relinquished the rights almost a year and a half ago.

Dealing with historical statistics isn't keeping them from fixing any of those issues. They have nothing to do with each other.

What you said comes down to pointless fan service that just confuses the record books. The present Jets are not the old Jets - Winnipeg lost that team and it became the Coyotes, just like the Atlanta Thrashers became the present Winnipeg Jets. The name is the same, just like the present Ottawa Senators versus the one in the 1920s. That's it.

Nothing is stopping the present team from putting up photos or whatever else they want to honour the old Jets team.

It's rather simple really. When franchises relocate, the records should stay behind. There I was able to do that and still get to the rest of my plans for today.

If this was our situation as Flames fans I would love to be lovingly served this way. Losing the Flames then getting the name, logo, jerseys back with retired numbers. Doesn't seem meaningless to me. But give me 20 more posts how little this means.

The very reason the team is called the Jets is because ownership had no choice if they wanted to keep goodwill with the fans. People heavily campaigned the ownership group on the individual level to have them use the name. In other words, the reason we wound up with the Jets is the same reason the history matters.

Are you counting Wheeler's Atlanta points? Why doesn't Shane Doan count? Was he not a member of the franchise?

A fair number of Jets fans feel this way, BTW.

The people rooting, supporting and living for this team want it to be called the Jets as well. A poll posted on THN.com a few weeks ago asked readers what the potential Winnipeg team’s nickname should be and 74 percent voted for the Jets. On Tuesday’s poll, 76 percent were voting in favor of the Jets nickname.

Fan polls were heavily in favor of the jets. You're either lying, or just making this up as you go. And that's really weird.
