What? Of course they're refrigerated. I thought mealy was a texture issue not flavour. You fools! It seems I carry this cross alone.

Yeah we’re at the end of their yearly run here. Most of them seem to be that way.
My toddler even refused to eat them calling them “too squishy”. But they aren’t squishy at all, they’re mealy.

That's what I thought too.
I eat blueberries regularly at breakfast on my corn flakes, because they are considered the healthiest of foods to eat. Every now and then the berries from one of the plastic boxes start to shred apart while washing them, probably from being over ripe. That's what I thought the word, "mealy" meant i.e. having the texture of cornmeal or little bits.

Well, if your berries have been refridgerated and become mealy - you should have eaten them sooner. Mashing them into your pancake batter will solve the mealy problem.

Sounds like they should be added to smoothies?

Frozen ones are good as a snack, but for some odd reason they make your fingers and dick blue.

Saskatoon pie >>>>>>>>> Blueberry pie
Saskatoon berries are often considered nutritionally superior to blueberries, boasting higher amounts of fiber, iron, calcium, and antioxidants, plus a more complex nutty-sweet flavor. While both are packed with health benefits, Saskatoons offer unique advantages like higher protein and fat, making them a powerful "superfood," but blueberries are more widely available and easier to grow in specific soils.
Some people prefer saskatoons for cooking as they tend to hold their shape better due to their thicker skin. The almond-like note in saskatoons also lends a unique flavor to baked goods [AI Overview]

Berries are for chumps and the weak. Everyone knows that.

Made Saskatoon berry ice cream a few weeks ago. Sooo good. Saskatoon juice concentrate for the base, and mixed in Saskatoon berry jam for little nuggets of joy. Better than blueberry for sure.

I dismiss these claims.
Either way, Haskaps are better than both of them anyway. Also super easy to grow yourself.

My wife planted haskaps and saskatoons a couple years ago, should be a better harvest this year. We tried blueberries a few times, and even after getting the laugh and "good luck" from the plant store on the last time, we still had hope. False hope. The guy was right. I think it must be my clay.
Wife also planted an arctic kiwi this year, so that'll be interesting when it starts putting out. It's got some good space to vine up. I wish the fig tree provided more than a fig every 6 months, too. Off the tree figs are so good. But they obviously don't survive Calgary, so it's just a little dwarfy one for indoors.

Saskatoons make a tasty wine but I always found a better use for my blueberry pickings.

Blueberries require acidic soil, almost all of Calgary has alkaline soil. The area around the rivers are acidic, so just buy a house next to the river like in Elbow Park.

Yeah I’ve only had success with them in planters, and I keep that soil acidic using “blueberry booster”.
