My neighbour had one. It was a pain to extend the claws, and then it sucked in that mode.

For packed snow and ice, I find the ice chopper totally sucks and is a strain to use.

Effort wise, best thing to use is a square spade shovel like this:

https://www.homedepot.ca/product/hus...ade/1001751006

It's better designed to try and knock out the compact snow and ice at a 45 degree angle than an ice chopper due to weight and design for going through hard dirt. IMO it's superior even to an ice chopper with the spring IMO. Even a square point spreader shovel is better than an ice chopper, even if it's not as good as a spade shovel.

I actually keep it in the trunk of my vehicles and I've pulled it out to aid digging someone out of deep snow. Those plastic and aluminum short shovels seem like a good idea, but over the years, I've seen quite a few broken plastic and compact aluminum shovels when wandering over to help someone out. Sometimes, you also have to shovel and break some ice down to the asphalt level before a couple of guys giving a push will work. I highly recommend a proper shovel if you can. A rounded point works fine for digging, but sometimes, you're trying to dig a straight trench for the tires to go back and the square shape works great.

Earlier this year, I went to help some dad in an SUV with a 3-4ft small plastic shovel and some teens in hoodies trying to dig out their Civic like golden retrievers occasionally rowing a snow brush. The dad said he had driven over and had been there for about 10-15 minutes trying to dig them out. Things had been going slowly because his shovel kept bouncing off something hard and he was trying to dig around it to figure out what it was. When I walked up with my steel shovel, the dad was like, "Oh this guys knows what works!". He quickly grabbed my shovel and was able to quickly knock out whatever was in the way and we had them on the road within moments. As the kids drove off, the dad thanked me, handed me the shovel back and said his next stop was the hardware store for a few shovels that would actually work.

It always feels good to help someone get their car unstuck.

I use a surplus folding entrenching tool from that I got from Crown Surplus. Keep one in each vehicle. Never let me down yet. I have occasionally wished for a longer handle, though.

Did everyone forget extra hard how to drive today? Saw someone decide a lane reversal had already started (it hadn’t) and drive into oncoming traffic, another person use a yield as a merge and almost drive into the vehicle in front of me, and another just stop in a lane on Crowchild (and stop all the cars behind them) so they could move over… all within 20 minutes and not the typical Uber plate you’d expect in sight.

It's Tuesday. So yes. The worst day of the week.

This morning I'm at a two way stop sign. Going left. Person across from me also going to their left. We both wait for traffic to clear.

Some wingnut on the free flow cross street, the last of the stragglers stops two full car lengths from the intersection for pretty much no reason and flashes his high beams multiple times.

Dumb dumb like what? You drive, we go when you pass. The other car went but I sat there until he went to point out how bizarre that was.

The memorial reversal?

That mistake is annoying but not evil. The stop to get over thing deserves a bullet in the head. To me that's a thousand times worse. I still need to look into buying 1 foot diameter radius stickers that say "you can't park there" I can get out slap on their car, drivers side window and be on my way. Non peel offable.

On a side note where can you get stickers made up?

SO car salesman was supposed to get back with the winter tire package they offered up and sends some others and says they will be also at cost just like those Uniroyals.

So the sales manager who was apologizing to us saying it was a teaching moment for his salesman didn't communicate that he had agreed to cover the winter tires.

Nope, give us back our 100% completely refundable deposit tonight when I go back.

That stuff drives me nuts. They aren’t doing anyone a favour, they’re messing up the flow of traffic. JUST DRIVE.

Yeah memorial. Agreed not evil, just dumb. I always feel so embarrassed for them (unless I’m going in their direction then I just sit there and lay on my horn so they panic extra).

Stopping a moving lane of traffic because you need over is just unforgivable. Sorry, you missed your turn or you don’t get your favourite lane or whatever. Find a new way home idiot. There’s about 100 ways to anywhere.

I support your giant sticker plan.

This morning, every lane in one direction at an intersection on Blackfoot had someone looking at their phones or otherwise distracted when the light went green. Someone in front of me honked and they finally got moving. Never seen it happen quite like that before. Usually it's just one person hoping the other cars moving will get their attention.

I think my brother or maybe one of the other neighborhood kids got one for Christmas....like any toy from that era of commercials...it was a major disappointment. You would spend a day trying to recreate the scene from the commercial, let the toy go...and it would pretty much die.

If it was Stompers, those were fantastic.

The blueberries I bought are a bit mealy. This may be the worst thing that's happened to anyone, ever.

I won’t go into the science of it because I’m not an expert. I don’t eat berries very often but when I do….
