Flames being 18th after the last couple of drafts they had is comical IMO

Always appreciate these lists, even if I don't fully agree.
Thanks!

He also says Potter is a second round pick, not a first (32 OV). Hate to complain as you seem to do a lot, but this leaves a lot to be desired on accuracy and criteria.

You are not an NHL regular when you have played just 12 NHL games, have been a healthy scratch more than once, and are set to play in a literal prospect tournament this month. However a 21 year old Connor Geekie with 58 NHL games played is considered a prospect.
What a silly way to create a list.

It just goes to show that they are not near a finished product and have a ways to go. We are pretty biased towards the Flames prospects we have followed closely but most teams have a lot of quality prospects that are very similar. At the end of the day most of these prospects don't work out, regardless of the potential they show in junior or college. It's why you need to draft int he top 5 to get the separation.

I always appreciate the effort, and I get that finding the right criteria for these lists isn't always easy. But yeah, this looks like a bit of a mess.

while true this specific list has our first rounder from 2023 and first pick from 2024 as graduated- I'm guessing (admittedly too lazy to know) that most of the 'bottom half' prospect teams haven't actually done that
but yeah we are out of the top 5 or so spots for sure based on lack of those elite players. all my biases aside 18 doesn't feel right

Dalibor Dvorsky has played 20 games with the Blues this season, yet is their top prospect. So its a bad criteria which is not even applied consistently across the rankings.

It was 32 in the table E-Mac submitted; I'll take the blame in editing the write up with the brain freeze of stating it was a 2nd. I'm a bit cross-eyed in reviewing all these and trying to get posted and good help is hard to find.

To be fair Dalibor had played 7 games when E-Mac got this whole series to me (~ mid-Nov); I'm just way behind on getting them posted - not easy to do when one has way too many hobbies while still working full time lol. Not an excuse; just a little further explanation. Might time to pack in this Upside Hockey side project tbh - haven't been able to land any helpers (had a few great leads last year for hockey gents that would have been great additions, but life circumstances got in - from serious car accident to close family member falling seriously ill).
I get it. I didn't give E-Mac any criteria to go off, so he just went with this approach. There's always a struggle in choosing this and diff ways to go about it. I probably would have used Calder Trophy eligibility as a simple marker. Starting it after season has already started also presents challenges. I mean, tough to call Schaefer and others prospects at this point. I do admit, E-Mac made some curious calls on some lads (Kyotchkev on Canes as well, but his start to the season was misleading with injury and then AHL conditioning stint).
Anyway, appreciate the feedback. The series may or may not continue lol.

Please don't take our feedback any more than an effort to make the content more valuable.
For me I think you have to set clear criteria, to remove the subjectivity. Probably around # of NHL games played. Or others solve it just by making it an age thing that evaluates the health of an organization for any player 23 years or under (the Athletic does this I think).
People will still criticize but at least you set a bar and remove the human judgement call out of it.
But the content is always appreciated.

To add, I've also learned to trust E-Mac's judgment over the years. I'm not saying he's totally nailed this by any stretch.
(So I restrained myself from editing this Flames' Top 10 : )
CP's own (I'm thinking without knowing who E-Mac and I are) did this analysis a while back in terms of draft rankings:
https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showth...istopher+ralph
Again, I get it, and would have also went about it differently, but thought I'd share this unique perspective.

Agree with all of this, and at the end of the day, the criteria can be whatever, as long as they are applied consistently.
But my vote is definitely for an age limit (i.e. anyone 23 and under, or whatever). That is the fairest comparison between teams, because it shouldn't hurt your rank that some of your young guys are good enough to be in the NHL. That should be a plus, not a minus.

I'm not a hockey expert, but I do have editing experience and might be able to assist with proofreading and such. PM me if you're interested.
