Because this game tonight was the headliner for why we need to rebuild and get some top talent from the top of the draft.

I haven't missed a game since 2008 ( unless I couldn't even sail the high seas to get it). Imissed a bunch of games in the 90s and early 200s as many games just were not broadcasted.
I still watch no matter what and I get through it and bear it like I do with any other media I consume . Just like bearing through a tough first season of a show to get the pay off for the rest of the series or playing a prollouge of a video game that takes hours on hours to get through but the other 30 plus hours are gold. You just watch so you know how the team got to the good times. 2011 to 2018 Flames were rough IMO and that still didn't turn out well all when things were said and done. Between 2010 and 2022 . Start of a rebuild to the demise of the fruits of that rebuild as a top 5 team in the leugue extingished by our biggest rivals.
I personally just put up with it. It's the highs and lows of sports that's no different then consuming any other media. Some shows I watch religiously have bad episodes and lots of them per season, some seasons are just pure gold. Some games I play are hit and miss along the way, some slow and boring then ramp up to the golden content and some are just pure misses that have a sprinkle of gems among the ash.
The Flames could be the next Sharks/ Blackhawks or the next buffalo who knows? Tune in next game for the final conclusion!!!!!
If those analogies fall flat think of Sports as a male exepted version of day time soaps. Constantly ongoing, Constantly changing actors.
Weird and fun fact mother I kid you not , has taped every episode of General hospital and days of our lives since the late 70s as a teen so she dosen't miss an episode and fall behind. She did it for general hospital and all my children until the were canceled in 2011. Taped by day watched by night between some newr late night TV comedies and shows or the original binge watch on Sundays

You can also draft McKenna somewhere other than 1st overall and it would probably be a mistake to draft him 1st overall. So if McKenna is your goal you have optionally.

In your opinion. IMO it would be a mistake not to take him 1st overall.

Give your own head a shake. This game was miserable to watch BECAUSE they are rebuilding. You should be enjoying it.

The worst year will be 27/28. They will still be rock bottom but fans will think they somehow screwed up the rebuild because they should be good by then. That year will be tough for some to watch because there will be fans who will think they could be decent by then.

I don't even find it miserable to watch. I have it on in the background while I'm puttering around the house. Back in the days when wins and losses mattered, the losses kind of bummed me out for the rest of the evening, so it's nice to not have a care at all after games. Not saying I enjoy it, but I could probably handle several years of this as it's really not that bad. I still watch, but am less invested which isn't a bad thing when you are one of those people that probably invests too much time into professional sports.

You don’t think much of the young players or prospects on this team if you think they much worse 2 years from now. There is a chance they will be but they will hopefully have some pillars in place. Maybe they will also try and play an entertaining brand of hockey because they couldn’t play a more boring style under Huska.
Also this team is getting zero puck luck this year and we know they swap good seasons with bad as they have done so for over a decade.

Is it puck luck or is it more from a roster of limited offensive talent coupled with a system not conducive to high danger chances. I ask this honestly as I don't watch a lot of games anymore due to a busy schedule. Over the years during down seasons where offense is a struggle, the 'ran into a hot goalie' line was often thrown around and I couldn't help but think they can't all be hot goalies and maybe it's due to who's taking the shots, from where, and/or under what systems.

I bet lots of people are tuning out and many are not buying tickets because they figure that they will just buy back in when they are good.

Two years into their rebuild the Sharks were much worse than they were when they started. But Aarongavey didn’t even say that they would be much worse, just that they would still be at the bottom.

Flames pace needed:
To make playoffs? 102 point pace the rest of the way
To NOT draft in the top 10? 97 point pace the rest of the way
To NOT draft in the top 5? 93 point pace the rest of the way

But the flames have been rebuilding for 3 years already so they will be at the bottom 5 years in?

Well ya, just based on how almost every team has done over history I do not expect 18 year olds and 19 year olds to carry this team to being competitive in 27/28. That would be the ages of the 26 and 27 picks in 27/28. I guess the hope would be that a couple 20/21 year olds can pick up that slack with huberdeau, Coronato and Farabee being key offemsive cogs up front (assuming we trade Kadri/Coleman).

It’s more of a commentary on the last decade plus where this team has been very inconsistent and when they are expected to be terrible they are decent and when expected to be good they are average.
Last year they were supposed to be bottom 10 but they get 96pts. The year before there was hope that with Sutter out they would have been a competitive team but they finished bottom 10. The previous year they were considered a cup contender and finished 9th.
Go back to Gaudreau’s rookie season to see this team just never seems to live up to the hype one year and completely outperform expectations the next.

I think Conroy is going to be looking at making some bigger acquisitions over the next couple of years. If not next summer then almost certainly the summer before the new barn opens. Moving out the 35 year olds and getting assets that can be used to acquire 25 year olds in a year or two.

Happy to be losing, it's the medicine we need to take... as unpleasant as it is. Any timeline on Parekh? Although his first NHL season so far hasn't been great, he's still a dynamic player that is fun to watch, and it's fun to see him progress into the player he'll become... which I still think will be a top DMan in the league.

But I was there at the beginning. As I said before, even after they drafted Barkov and Huberdeau, there was a season where Nick Bjugstad was their leading scorer with 38 points. That's not a typo. That was with those two young stars on the team. It was ugly. It sucked. There's no sugar coating how hard it is to cheer for a rebuilding team.

It’s surprising to me how many fans really deeply underestimate this. It’s much easier if you’re one of those casual observers who can just check out for seasons at a time, but for the people who actually enjoys the wins and the progress and suffer the losses, oof.
Worth it in the end? You hope so. But that’s why it’s important to enjoy what little you can on the way, because you never really know.
it’s not hard to imagine a reality where Florida goes through all that and never wins a cup.

If it weren't for the Flames, they may not have. Last years Conn Smythe winner, and Tkachuk - both players who really helped to change the culture and style of play.
