This year will be the worst of it if all goes to plan.

Next year we might suck, but there should be an infusion of young high end talent to bring more hope and excitement with the team.

Listen up all you with the hard ons for tanking, this better be ####ing worth it. This is simply not a fun team to watch this year.
Think about it... Barkov 2OA, Ekblad 1OA, and Huberdeau 3OA flipped for Chucky.

Do you win those cups without going through some pain in the early 2010s?

Nope. As with the Panthers, these tough years will be long, forgotten if everything goes according to plan.

I’m sure every Colorado fan has a tough time enjoying watching MacKinnon play for their first place team without flashing back to a loss in December 2012. Was it even worth it in the end?
(I’m hoping if I paint this picture with a non oilers team it will be less triggering to a certain subset of flames fans)

There is no Mackinnon in this draft, or next. There is rarely ever a Mackinnon. The Avs were also trying to win during that time. They just ended up sucking.

Oh damn there’s no Mackinnon this year? Well why bother then, let’s trade our pick and make a heroic push for 88 points. Whoever ends up drafting not-MacKinnon in June might think they’re getting a good asset in ten years plus of an elite level player but we’ll ALWAYS have our 88 point non playoff 2026 season. Banners fly forever.

I don't think anyone thought there was a Crosby available in the MacKinnon year.

It’s miserable to watch, I forgot we played Sunday and after watching highlight’s, Jesus I’m glad I missed it.

I used to watch every game religiously, give me a product worth watching.

We got slaughtered by the worst team in the league to make us become the worst team in the league.

Whoever isn’t on team tank right now, and I ask you honestly, how can you watch this ####ing crap? Or do you live a single day by day with no forethought of how life could be better? Or are you a masochist? Or do you just enjoy debating any other side of an arguement?

Because this game tonight was the headliner for why we need to rebuild and get some top talent from the top of the draft.

Give you heads a shake, you don’t need to be cheering for a loss, but stop ####ting on the ones who know enough what it will take to get a sniff at a cup in our lifetime.

Perfect results tonight (including the no good powerplay darlings getting blanked in their own barn)

Looks like McKenna's back on the menu, boys!

Results may not be there for a while but there will be hope. Especially if Gavin or Ivar are wearing red.

I've missed most of the games this season.

I stopped watching the game against the Lightning after 1-0 because I knew what was coming, I only watched part of the Florida game when I was at the gym after work, I watched all of the Carolina game because it was a 1-0 game, and tonight I turned it off after 2-0.

Like I mentioned above he never was off the menu.

They could still draft him not finishing last. Not just because they could win the lottery and move up but whoever is ahead of them might decide to pick someone else.

You just got extended, and the GM that extended you also received an extension. You’re safe.

Start trying some new things.

Otherwise, it’s hard to watch. Gridin sent down. Parekh injured. Honzek injured. Hunt and Beecher not really points of interests when watching games (and I’d argue they don’t meaningfully help you win or develop going forward).

Be brave. Dare to try something new.

Alexis Joseph in the 2027 draft might be the closest thing to a MacKinnon we’ve seen in a while. He’s currently ranked to go 1st overall in the 2027 draft by quite a few draft lists. A 6’5” center who dominates in every way. I think Craig Button described him as being elite at pretty much everything - speed, power, hands, heavy shot, work ethic, physicality.. . sounds a lot like MacKinnon. He looked really good at the U17s this year.

Of course the likelihood of getting him is even lower than getting McKenna currently because that draft is 1.5 years away and a lot can happen between now and then… still, my dream scenario is to get any of the top 3 players in this draft and then get Joseph in the 2027 draft.

There will be lots of nights like tonight for that scenario to play out but, like others have said, I think the toughest season will be this one. Not because they are at the bottom of the league and they lose a lot - I think that will still happen next year - but because there is little to get hyped for every game right now. The team wins or loses depending almost exclusively on how the vets (Kadri, Backlund, Coleman, Huberdeau, Andersson, Weegar) perform. I will be excited for the fate of a game to rest more on the young players. The infusion of more young players in larger roles is progressing but next year will be the first year where they are really given the reigns of the team. They’ll still lose a lot because the team will be young and still thin on elite talent but I will still be more excited to watch a #1 powerplay unit with Coronato, Gridin, Parekh, and McKenna/Stenberg on it.

The Flames are sitting in last place with 2.29 goals per game. The second-last team in G/GP right now is SEA (2.46). First is COL (4.08).

The final year of the dead puck era was the 2003-04 season. Here are some comparisons:

- The top team in G/GP was OTT (3.20). (Compare that to COL's current 4.08).
- CGY's current 2.29 G/GP would have been the 5th worst that season, ahead of only WSH (2.27), ANA (2.24), CBJ (2.16) and CAR (2.10).
- SEA's current 2.46 G/GP would have been good for 19th place that season, ironically bumping CGY (2.44) down one spot to 20th.
- The Rocket Richard that season was (as most of us know) awarded to three players (Iggy, Nash and Kovalchuk), who were each tied for the league lead with only 41 goals.
- Our current individual G/GP leader is Matt Coronato (0.30). He's on pace to finish the seaon with 24 goals.
- The current league G/GP leader is Nathan MacKinnon (0.85). He already has 22 goals and in one less game played. Coronato is sitting at exactly 100th overall in G/GP.

A few years after the McKinnon draft, lots thought McKinnon wasn't going to be McKinnon either. Many thought Druoin was carrying him at draft time.

Earlier this year, many thought Bedard was just going to be a decent forward. Someone even predicted he'd get 36 points.

McKenna may be generational, maybe not. But he's almost assuredly would be our best forward.

Yeah, I know. I already went through all that. It sucked for a long time. It was hard to enjoy the team until they made the playoffs for the first time and were given a prompt exit by John Tavares and the Islanders. Even after they became legitimate, it was tough sledding for a few years with multiple early playoff exits.

But I was there at the beginning. As I said before, even after they drafted Barkov and Huberdeau, there was a season where Nick Bjugstad was their leading scorer with 38 points. That's not a typo. That was with those two young stars on the team. It was ugly. It sucked. There's no sugar coating how hard it is to cheer for a rebuilding team.
