Maybe not the best on a lot of lists, but I am surprised Faith No More doesn't get more mentions on the longer lists.

PARAMORE???
Have I missed something?! Paramore is the 31st greatest band of all time? Ahead of The Eagles, Santana, Blondie, Def Leppard The Cure?
Wait... No Doubt is on that list?! What am I missing?
...oh it's Billboard. This must be about airplay or singles or something.

Nah it's about not really giving a toss about anything recorded after 1980 but not wanting to own their 'crotchety old bastard shuffling around the office with a Zimmer frame' status

Def Leppard stood out to me.
I only caught the latter half of their career when they blew up with Hysteria. Did I miss something before that? They were fun and stuff, but I didn't think they were considered exceptional or anything.

Maynard definitely didn't mail it in.
I don't know if it is schtick he does or if something really bothered him about Winnipeg, but Maynard was constantly hurling insults at the crowd in between songs. Calling people rednecks and hicks, making fun of the cars people drive in Winnipeg, and stuff like that. In particular, he mentioned how disrespectful people were for showing up late after the opening act finished. He made some statement about how people in L.A. wouldn't do something like that, which sounded kind of snobby. Nobody in the crowd seems to mind though. It was like yaaaayyyy, insult us more!
|
Haha yeah, that's Maynard. He likes to troll the audiences. You should hear/watch some of his very early interviews etc. I'm pretty sure he actually hates LA, btw. He wrote an entire song about wanting to see it flushed into the ocean lol. He's also done some acting himself in few different things. He's also written a song about fans that accused the band of selling out when they got popular... it says things like "I sold out long before you even knew me" and "I sold my soul to make this record, and you bought it" and then finishes with "shut up and buy my new record" lol.

I like those lists cause sometimes I need a good laugh and those lists can often provide it. Like what the #### are AC/DC, Heart, and the Grateful Dead doing ranked ahead of the Beach Boys? Good ####. I will say in the rage bait era we live in you should be having way more fun with a list like that. Get Nickelback and Imagine Dragons in there.

Whether Tool sucks, or Nickelback sucks, or Paramore sucks, I hope we all can come together and acknowledge that as far as bands sucking ass goes, RHCP stink of poop.

I might be OCD about lists. Like Cusak in High Fidelity.

Yeah it's hard to hate on that list. U2 is WAY too high though.

How much weight do you put the show over the actual substance of the music? Because I could see why some people would put AC/DC high on a list like that if you just wanted the energy and performance of a live show.
I remember seeing Soundgarden with The Reverend Horton Heat back in the day. Most people would probably consider Soundgarden to be the better band when it comes to records and would be on way more people's lists, but damned if The Reverend Horton Heat wasn't the better live show. If I had to take someone to a concert who didn't know either band and just wanted them to have fun, I know which one I would take them to.

It's actually incredibly easy to hate that list lol. It's just we've seen more offensive lists than this, so scale graded it's not too bad.

No Sex Pistols or Joy Division/New Order makes it pretty easy to hate on it

Another little aside, but Barry Manilow had a #1 hit song called “I write the songs”, he did not write that song.

Based on the title I'm just imagining a gladiator games of opinionated 50-something ex-hippies with skullets.
