Don't get me wrong - he's a strong prospect with a good skillset, but he's 3rd in scoring on Michigan, and doesn't even rank in the top three in faceoffs taken on that team. Projecting him as a 1st line center in the NHL is a massive, massive stretch at this point.
Should he really be valued much differently than a prospect like Calum Ritchie who was only a partial piece in the Brock Nelson trade or is it just media and fan biases that boost his value?

This
Hage and Ritchie are very similar levels of prospects.
In their Draft+1 Richie climbed to NHLe of 39, Hage was 36. According to Hockey Prospecting model they both had about a 20% chance of becoming a star at that time.
Ritchie didn't take a huge step in his draft+2 and then ended up being traded for Nelson in the middle of that season.
Hage had a great start, but has slowed down a lot, and it's possible his production ends up being pretty flat season over season too.
If Brock Nelson can get Richie, 1st, and 3rd then Kadri should be able to get Hage + as a return.
Also not to litigate it again but it's why it's really sad the Flames couldn't' take advantage of the Avs desperation last year because that was such a great return, hopefully they can generate something similar this year.

Hage was a guy I was really big on in his draft year. He has elite upside imo. I can't see any way the Habs are dumb enough to trade him.

I fully agree that Hage and Ritchie are comparable prospects.
But we've all seen time and again though, just because one team is willing to make a move, doesn't mean similar moves are repeatable.
Also the Habs are in a very different position in their lifecycle then the Avs.
Not saying it's impossible, but if I'm a Habs fan I'm probably not gung ho about sending Hage+ for 4 more years of a 35 year old.
I do think Hage+ would be a great package for Kadri though
I would be also very interested in Nate Danielson and I think the redwings could be a good fit.

Kraken are playing pretty well so far, and have weak, weak competition in the division. I wonder if they would pay up for Kadri and or Coleman. Wright + ...

Wright is 21 and is averaging about 0.5ppg over the last 100 games so I am not sure Seattle would for him for a 35 year old. Silly move for a team way far out of contention for the cup

Rental = 4 years. That is one hell of a rental period.

I don't Kadri to Seattle would happen, but it isn't just the notion that Kadri would score and put them into the playoffs. Kadri would help change a culture. That's part of the value with Kadri, I would say. For a younger team trying to get over that hurdle - the mental hurdle - Kadri would also help. Buffalo should be all over Kadri, Andersson and Coleman after seeing Calgary playing so hard. I am sure that it is on every single one of their NTCs of course, but just stating that these 3 vets are the kind of vets you want to add not only because of their on-ice contributions, but also on the bench, in practice, etc., in which they can positively impact a team's culture.

Oh I don't disagree.
I'm just saying don't take less value on your own players because you became so deadset on needing Hage that you then go and trade both Kadri and Coleman for him.

Yeah definitely. Maximize the value.
I do think he deserves small bump when determining value in the sense of he's a right shot center that is close to jumping pro. I would take him over a pick #21 in the 2026 draft.
But yeah I don't think his value is so much that he's worth drastically more then that.

I hope and pray we could get Hage, I would even cut off a digit or two to make it reality, but I just don’t see it happening at this stage of Montreal’s trajectory.

I will sacrifice a few as well. Let's start a digit pool.

Made a good point that regardless of the words, the Flames haven't actually made any moves to try to be competitive. He said any words about being competitive are just words for their season ticket holders who might not want to hear the word rebuild.
Also said if Conroy was available he would have many calls from teams ready to hire him immediately, so would be shocked if he was not re signed.
Finally, said he isn't worried about the Flames not officially making players available. Said regardless of what other teams announce; Andersson, Kadri, and Coleman are still very valuable compared to what is available elsewhere.
|
Yeah I kinda feel the same way, the interview meant nothing, regardless if the delivery was bad. CC ain't stupid, if they are last come the trade deadline, I think you will see a couple vets moved out, Andersson being one, Coleman or Kadri being the other.
The temptation to add 1 or 2 1st round picks will be too much to pass up.
Need Vegas to tank, get an injury or two
McKenna and Verhoeff sure would look good in the flaming C

But they have their own as well I think. So they could potentially trade their 1st round pick+ the Dallas 1st.
