Too large a portion of their biggest hits are direct lifts of other songs. Like they say in this video, their MO as a band was to start by "covering" a song they liked and then slowly forming it into a new "original" song that became "theirs".

edit: damn YouTube and their new coding for imbedding. Only CP requires some part of the damn link and not the whole thing, lol.

Deduct a few points for that, but it’s hard to ignore the songs they turned into. They have to be top 5 in this list or it doesn’t exist.

I am a pretty big Ween fan and there was a period of time that they were probably one of my favourite music groups (the era from The Pod to The Mollusk or Quebec). The first time I ever heard them was when they played the song Laura on CBC's Brave New Waves radio show.

I find them really hit and miss, but they definitely aren't afraid to take chances. Pretty much all their albums are completely different from each other which is pretty rare.

It’s ok to like pop groups like the Carpenters and ABBA. They do not suck. Some say Karen was a top drummer - could drum even better than she sang.

One of my favorite cover songs - Shonen Knife doing “Top Of The World.”

That's the thing about Ween, they definitely could have been the best band ever if they actually wanted to be. But instead they wanted to be able to make a song called "The HIV Song" on a major label. And that's why we love them lol.

XTC is compared to the Beatles. XTC is better.

That was not a serious list. It was a dig at Fotze.

They are the Stanley Kubrick of music.

Saw Ween twice - two three hour mind melting shows. One at Mac Hall and one at Flames Central. Very Brown.

Fair. Not my taste, but they were great at what they did. This analysis made me appreciate her more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R8gAtbLDnM

Karen Carpenter was voted best drummer in the world while Bonham, Baker and Moon were still alive.

She was criminally underrated in that position.

Me too, but you have to admit that they have a lot, and I mean a lot, of ####ty Wook fans.

Small aside here but Phish has the best nickname for their official fan group, they’re called Phans

Thanks for that - I love watching breakdowns of great songs by experts. I should make a list of some favorite channels.

I saw one vocal coach break down in tears of joy listening to KD Lang sing Hallelujah.

??

What is a 'wook' in rave, EDM, or hippie culture? “Wook” refers to anyone in any hippie-adjacent culture who typically enjoys psychedelics, not wearing deodorant, and bothering other people. It's a derogatory term that describes a certain type of music fan that pops up at festivals, raves, and EDM concerts.

She’s a good one for vocals. I like the Daily Doug for identifying the chord progressions and music theory, plus if a song gets weird he pulls out his bong and takes a hit.
