A lot of that comes down to the age of the board, though. I like bands like the Stones and the Beatles, but they're also from a time before mine. While bands like Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Beastie Boys, and Rage Against the Machine (and the list goes on) were putting out great music when I was growing up, I was having a great time! So, yes, those other bands are great, and I understand why someone would think they're amazing, but I gravitate to the ones that have had a more profound impact on my life.
And I think when people look back at where that music stems from, it's closer to the Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath side of things than Stones/Beatles.
These debates are always so emotionally driven. In the end everyone likes what they like and there really isn’t a right or wrong answer.
That being said the “best band ever” is probably The Beatles even though they aren’t my favourite band(though I am a fan). For no reason other than they likely have the overall highest ratio of people who like them vs don’t like them.
Edit: wrote this while Pepsi made the above post and lol’d when I read his post
For the most part, but like the best candy bar debate, there's always those that are totally whack like those Big Turk eaters.

A big issue is definition of the word "Rock". Many would define it as not pop. So a band, like the Beatles, that walks the line of being a pop band is going to be polarizing for some. To be fair, they really are a in a separate genre than bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, or the time immemorial Audioslave.
Objectively Ween is the correct answer because Ween could do your favourite band's best song almost better than they could, but your favourite band could never do the brownest Ween song.

Ween has the only country album I'll happily listen to the whole thing, which is 10 songs, and called 12 Golden Country Greats. And if you don't like it, you can piss up a rope.

Pink Floyd
Jethro Tull
Tragically Hip
The Watchmen
Dire Straights
Silversun Pickups
Just a quick top six off the top of my head, no particular order. There are many many more. There is no way to pick a greatest rock band of all time. That is like asking who the greatest painter, author or F1 driver of all time is/was.

The funniest part about that album is most bands would just do a total piss take, yet Ween actually recruited some Nashville studio legends to play on the album. But they still had to be Ween so you get songs like Piss Up a Rope, Mister Richard Smoker, and Help Me Scrape the Mucus Off My Brain.

Japanese Cowboy is one of my faves. Not on that album, but one day I was walking home from work and listening to CJSW. They put on Bananas and Blow and I had to stop, sit on the bench and take it in.
Ween could write A Day in the Life or Happiness is a Warm Gun, but the Beatles could never write Awesome Sound or Laura or Reggaejunkiejew. So yeah Ween probably is better than the Beatles.
