And to try to pass this off as necessary is even more insulting. Like really, it’s an emergency to make sure that kids are going by their right names or that boys and girls aren’t playing soccer against each other at 12 years old? Gimme a ####ing break.

Paraphrasing a commentator I heard today
The Charter should protect the rights of minorities not the bigotry and ignorance of the majority.

The difference with this government is that they’re doing things I vehemently oppose. The notwithstanding clause use is so disgusting, and now they’ve used it twice. Congratulations on taking away rights from a vulnerable population. It’s actually infuriating!
And on the same day they’re putting in two-tier healthcare, which I can’t even put into words how opposed I am to this. Like I might be more upset with this government on this day than any other I can remember.
Just incredibly abhorrent and we can’t take them down soon enough.

Jon Stewart put it pretty well in the early weeks of Trump's 2nd term. Paraphrasing:
Don't get outraged at every little thing the government does that you disagree with, it softens the impact of things that require actual outrage.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to be outraged.
Remember the days when we were appalled at things like what politicians billed the taxpayers for travel expenses? Man, those were the days.

Just how Trump is doing it. Claiming an emergency to pass all those executive orders.
They have figured out the loophole and a well-off life has made too many of us complacent, so we don't even realize what they're doing until it's too late.

Yes, I think that is about what Shoppers was charging for the covid shot. I took the AHS clinic route for myself and the kids, apparently I'll get a bill from the province at some point for the covid doses (~$100 each).

Wild. Is that just the covid shot? Is the flu shot at least free for everyone?

In fact, our child had started to express dysphoria around age 12, but my husband and I brushed it aside as normal teen angst.
Many youth in this situation suffer in silence, sometimes for years – often with severe mental-health impacts. A 2019 survey by Trans PULSE Canada found that 40 per cent of respondents aged 14 to 24 considered suicide in the past year, while 10 per cent attempted it.
Giving youth access to gender-affirming care (GAC), on the other hand, results in much better outcomes. A 2022 U.S. survey of almost 100,000 youth (16 and older) found that 79 per cent reported feeling “a lot more satisfied” with life following transition, while only 2 per cent reported feeling “a lot less satisfied.”

My own experience prescribing puberty blockers has demonstrated enormous psycho-social benefits in youth who feel a quiet desperation watching their bodies change in ways they can’t control. The onset of puberty is often when a youth starts to feel severe dysphoria. A puberty blocker provides them with a pause to consider next steps, with minimal risks and no effects on fertility, and is 100-per-cent reversible.

This is what the UCP feel requires revoking our rights in such a violent way is required to stop. It's also why I included this in my email:

I hope your soul bleeds every time one of these children commits suicide because of your actions, and make no mistake, they will. And it will be your fault. You, and your party will be directly responsible for the deaths of children.

Really give them something to think about when they go to bed at night. ####ing ghouls.

Just go to a provincially run vaccination clinic and lie next time. Say you have ADHD, it's a phase 1-qualifying condition.

^ Will proof be required? It doesn't seem like it at the clinic, but perhaps afterwards when the bills are sent out?

Or cross the border to BC or SK. I’m looking to get it done in Sparwood.

No proof was required at the time. I don't think they could get away with afterwards, because there was no warning at the time it could be a possibility. I suspect next year we'll be required to sign an attestation.
Sad it's come to needing to lie to the govenrment to access preventative healthcare, but I guess that's where we are in Alberta. Thank your neighbours.
