Oh wonderful. About 7 losses away from hearing Pete Deboer talk about how Pete Deboer wants Edmonton to play Pete Deboer hockey!

And they would have lost against the Flyers if the goal wasnt a mm offside

Pretty hilarious if he truly posted that to his instagram. Certainly didn’t take long for him to turn that cocky attitude against the organization.

What does he mean by that though? Like he won’t report or something? Would be pretty unheard of for a young player who just signed a deal a few months ago to refuse to report to the AHL affiliate.

I imagine the oilers promised him he would get to play on a line with McDavid and Draisaitl in order to convince him to sign. I think they do that with everyone. Then they get there and realize they’re just being sat so McDavid and Draisaitl can have more ice time.

Nugent-Hopkins 25-54-79 (16 more)

Howard 9-5-14 (26 less)
Podkolzin 13-22-35 (3 less)
Walman 18-41-58 (21 more)
Frederic 4-0-4 (31 less)
Nurse 13-17-30 (1 less)
Ekholm 4-26-30 (as predicted)

Here are some gems:

Quote:
2. Matt Savoie wins the Calder Trophy
Matt Savoie is going to cook in his first full NHL season, and I’m predicting he’ll get a trophy for it too.
I think the Savoie hype train is going to start early in the year. He’s going to show up to camp, turn heads, and do what most Oilers rookies haven’t done in years — force the issue with pure speed and skill. While he will certainly get opportunities to play with the top dogs, the kid doesn’t need to be a top-line guy to make some noise. He just needs ice time, to stay healthy, and be given the chance to make his way into the NHL without fear of being stapled to the bench. If Savoie gets even 14–16 minutes per night, he’s going to pop for 25 goals, and I think that will translate into the franchise’s first-ever Calder Trophy win.
The kid’s skill is undeniable, the hockey sense is rock solid, and if Kris Knoblauch gives him a real shot, I can absolutely see him putting up 55+ points and walking away with the Calder. The last Oiler to do it? Barrett Jackman. Kidding. It’s never happened before. So why not now? Why not Matt Savoie?

3. Isaac Howard scores 20 goals
If you haven’t familiarized yourself with Isaac Howard yet, that’s fine — you’ll be screaming his name from your couch soon enough — because he’s going to pop off for 20+ goals in his rookie campaign. The kid has wheels, a scorer’s instinct, a deadly shot, and just the right amount of swagger to thrive in this market. I mean, how else would you describe a kid who calls himself the Ice Man?

And if Tippet had dragged his skate by 1/8th of an inch how many losses in a row would we be talking about. Most of the Oilers wins this season have been due to blind stinking luck and ref's assistance. That win over Montreal should definitely been a loss.

He might be right about Howard scoring 20 goals this year, now that he’s been sent to Bakersfield.

If you're good, you're given a nickname by your peers.

Also "the right amount of swagger to thrive in this market" is hilariously worded, knowing how outspokenly cocky this kid is. Aka he fits right into Edmonton's cesspool culture.

"I mean, how else would you describe a kid who calls himself the Ice Man?"

I'd go with 'absolute tool' but to each their own, Bob.

With 4 regulation wins in their first 20 games, the Oilers are on pace for 16 at the end of the season. Last year, the league worst Sharks had 14. The second worst Blackhawks had 20.

Not being from central California, I don't see ‘Bako’ and immediately think ‘Bakersfield’. I think the longer version probably travels better.

The mighty Sabers beat down the Oilers 5-1. The great McDavid with zeros and a -2.

Oilers only scored 1 goal tonight against the Sabres, bring up the ice man right now. likely the refs fault.
