Why does the CFL suck so bad?

that's actually not true anymore...it was back when the "Radically Canadian" slogan was being used...but a couple of years back, the CFL changed ball suppliers, and the balls have progressively become more NFL-like, with only marginal differences in size. The only noticeable difference now is the white stripes on the ends of the CFL balls.

I noticed that from highlights the other day I thought I was seeing things. Looks like a NCAA ball. Good for them, that's a step in the right direction, however I hear that last year they went to a synthetic material that QB's hate because they can't grip the ball.

Not entirely true but close enough. I have both types and the CFL one is slitely wider and rounder on the ends. Both balls are perfect for the leagues they're being used in. The CFL ball gets a lot more loft and is more catchable, whereas the NFL ball is more ideal for 'slinging' and fitting it into tight coverage.

I believe last year's problems were because the lines on the ends were stitched on instead of painted, which caused the grip problems for the QBs.

^^ Yes, and they have switched back for this season. They had considered switching mid season last year, but then it may have been less fair to some teams who had tougher competition earlier on in the season. Because every team had the same handycap, it kept everything level.

I do find it funny the full circle this conversation has taken. A few pages ago the Pro-NFLers were saying the NFL was better because of fewer dropped passes, etc. Now they are saying its better because the ball is easier to catch. I don't suppose its possible that some of those dropped passes are a result of the ball being harder to catch?

Sorry, I was going by Oilfan's comment. I have to disagree with Rubecube's opinion of the CFL ball being more catchable. With an NFL ball I make catches that make me look like a superstar. With the CFL ball I look more like Cuba Gooding Jr's stunt double in "Radio."

I would also think that seeing as most receivers are American, they would find the ball they have used all of their carriers to be easier to handle.

They should use the new nerf balls with the raised seams. Even my 8 year old daughter can make sick catches.

He was signed by Winnipeg last season, but was out of shape, didn't try, etc, and was cut pretty quickly.

I would say a baseball is indeed easier to catch than a volleyball. Both the baseball and the NFL football only require one hand to do the actual catching. The other hand is just used for extra control.

Or perhaps a better analogy would be a baseball vs. a softball. Both moving at the same speed and trajectory; which do you find easier to catch?

I'd say a baseball. That softball is just so huge, it likes to spit out of baseball gloves. I played a game in my cousin's softball league a couple weeks back and couldnt believe I actually dropped two fly balls, I still havent heard the end of that one.

Well maybe I'm just weird then. I find a bigger surface much easier to catch than a smaller surface.
