The last couple of paragraphs are eye opening. But read the whole thing.

“I ask for the world to rise up, Canada to rise up, our farmers to rise up and make this a revolution,” she said on Thursday, while wiping away tears.

“This is our time to change history, and this is the time to protect your animals and protect your land rights, and protect yourself, you protect your children and you protect your grandchildren’s future because this isn’t the Canada that we want,” she said.
God, they are so full of themselves. This is so far down the list of what most people in Canada care about right now, never mind the world.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed ostriches can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has

The wild bird population is riddled with avian flu. The problem is whether a domestic bird population is infected that could find its way into the food chain of humans. The infection itself is uncontrollable at this point.

I don't really get it. They are raised as food for humans. They were going to die prematurely anyways. It's not like they were going to spend their days living until they die naturally like they kind of imply

I am fine with it, I just think they should test the flock to see if some kind of immunity has been developed by the remaining birds. That could be huge for science.

Ducks are largely unaffected by the virus, they catch it but it does little too them, which is why they are a huge vector for infection, immunity in Ostriches is utterly useless to science unless we start eating 4 billion Ostriches a year

These birds weren't being used for meat. And, I could be wrong, but I don't believe avain flu can be transmitted through eggs. They have to be slaughtered to protect existing treaties that don't make the distinction.

Also, they could find their way to a cave in northern China, make sweet love to a bat, who then flies south for a hedonistic weekend with a pagolin, who then gets live eaten at a market a few clicks away from the avian flu genetics lab. Do you want to kill the world?

Yeah the farm did a good job of suddenly pretending they were some sort of rescue and wanted to research the birds. No, they were always a commercial farm where they bred them for meat.

Pretending otherwise was always clearly an attempt for sympathy, and now to make money.

Anyway, job's done now

I thought they might go in there with a samurai sword Highlander style. Who hasn't looked an an ostrich neck and thought about it?
