Suddenly we will find ourself picking outside the top 10 again by the end of the year. And suddenly because we are winning we won't trade the vets because you want to give them a chance at playoffs.
I am cheering for losses now because I want to win and be able to contend in the future. I want a Bedard. I want a Celebrini. I don't want to keep hoping we can hit it out of the park in the draft. These elite game changing players are mostly found right at the top of the draft. I want a game changer.
I want to lose lots, and I want Kadri, Anderrson, Coleman all to be traded very soon to help that and get good returns.

The best part is, there is nothing stopping our scouts from hitting it out of the park and picking 1st OV.
When I look at teams that if they fall out of the race early and hit that point early where they just will not make the playoffs. I see the Flames having the most key contributors that are the easiest to move from a GM's perspective (not the fans)
Fans can say all these players are available, but are they? Is St Louis trading Thomas who is signed for many years and has a great contract and puts up 90 points vs the Flames #1 center who is 35 and is a 70-point player.
Rasmus vs Josi vs Parayko, who is more likely to move this season? Is it even a debate?
Need losses now so the path is crystal clear for Conroy & Maloney & Edwards.

As Rhett Warrener said on Barn Burner today, every win is a missed opportunity for the Flames.

It's the hyperbolic negative reaction to things, even in the context of hoping they lose and get a high pick (which I don't have a problem with BTW).
This is a team that is dead last in the NHL and has won a measly 2 games in a row against pretty bad teams.
And your reaction is:
"Looks like the tank is over."
" I no longer see our team tanking. We will not come last place with Wolf. Hoping for a miracle run for playoffs at this point because we are looking at likely another 9th or 10th place finish which would be painful."
"We are not good enough to win anything, but not bad enough it seems to tank for McKenna.
Stuck in the middle again unless we trade a few players. Not good."
Just take a breath and try not to over-react to everything with doom and gloom.

This team will not be last the longer they hold onto Kadri & Anderson. That’s all it comes down to imo. Once those 2 are gone you’re going to have a pretty exposed D with 2 rookies, and a pretty terrible C depth plus losing arguably our best player on any given night.

But telling others about it every day is like walking around on a mostly sunny day with scattered showers telling others you're hoping to get rained on because it's good for the fall harvest. Everyone wants a good harvest too but it's Calgary. There's gonna be some sun some of the time and we're gonna enjoy the sun, even though deep down we know we need rain too.

They're 3-2-1 since the schedule softened, beginning with NYR.
Certainly better, but nothing that will overcome the fact we get crushed by actually good teams.
If we maintain 1-7-1 against 'stronger' teams (.167 point percentage) and manage a .583 point percentage against the softer teams...I mean, what is this team at that point?
The Flames are still last in the league.

I don't think anybody truly debated that though.
The team was never going to break the NHL record for fewest goals scored, and fewest points in a season.
The real question was - with the poor start they had after 13 games (2-9-2) could they realistically expect to make a push for the playoffs - and I think the answer was and still remains No - even with a couple wins.
I know you have to try to get the best trade return for a player you can...but what's more valuable to the organization.
Being able to squeeze an extra 2nd round pick out of a Andersson trade, but he helps you play .500 for the next 40 games.
Or you trade him now and maybe don't get that extra 2nd, but it means you play .450 for the next 40 games.
At this point the difference between picking 3rd overall vs picking 8th overall outweights that 2nd round pick for sure.
It would cost you at least an additional 1st to trade up from 8th to 3rd.
Last year I get why the Flames didn't make moves and pushed for the playoffs - it 100% made sense based on their start and how they are playing.
This year it's the opposite. If there are things you can do to help your draft position be better, then you should be doing that as a manager.
You can't ask the players on the ice to stop trying, but you can make moves to impact the roster. Especially with Andersson who is gone anyways, and with our thin defense him being traded would drive a big impact. And at this point I don't think the return for Andersson is going to be any better at the deadline, than it is now, than it was in the offseason. Feels like they missed the boat on a big return for him by not doing it at the 2024 draft.

And they haven't been that impressive in the wins. I see nothing to tell me this team is going to start to rip off an extended streak.

Nothing drastic but I do think they've been a little better in every area, which adds up.
Scorings up, they're a little more structured and Wolf has had some big games.
I think they'll be a bottom 10 team by seasons end, but I would not be surprised at all to see them climb out of the bottom 5.

Yeah really hard to predict. I think they are a bottom 5 team. But I thought that heading into last year too.
This year they look more like the team I was expecting them to be last season.

What I miss the most is the PGT talk about the game ... who did well, who struggled, and dissecting the ins and out of the "post" game.
What drives me nuts, and I get it, it is not going to change, but since everyone else says their opinions, figured I would too is .... every day reinforcing the tank or bemoaning a win because they are tanking. I would love a dedicated TANK thread for you all to commiserate with yourselves.
I for one, like to hear everyone's takes on the individuals and the plays of the games and the things that happened in the game. Just me. Rip me if you want.

"Crushed" by one goal vs the Jets, Vegas, and Montreal (OT) at home?

Not a lot of takeaways from this game. I think the Flames were badly outplayed, especially in the latter two periods. Wolf pretty much just closed the door on the Jackets.

Great to get a win on Kadri's big night.
I thought Coranato had his best game so far, which came with a sigh of relief as we kept getting told that him sitting a few games was ruining his development and we might as well trade him ( well that's what i've had to put up with on X)

11-3 score in those 3 wins...I mean people were talking about the lowest scoring team of all time like it was actually going to stay at that pace

Are the Jackets bad? they started slow but had won 6 of 8. They are around .500 like every other team in the east it seems
