Kadri would be crazy to play in a red state (or even possibly a blue state). Makes sense he would want to stay in Canada.

Looking at the upcoming schedule the flames could find themselves hovering around .500 by US thanksgiving. There are 10 games before they play the Panthers on Black Friday and I could see them winning 6-7 of those games looking at the schedule. If they are 10-12-3 at US Thanksgiving are they pulling back on selling off anyone other than Ras?

I have a difficult time imagining trading Kadri to TOR. It isn't just the lack of assets, but the fact they have $86k of cap space. This pro rates to about $333k at the deadline. Which means that there would need to be ~$7M worth of retention + players coming back.

… dude… the entire context is that we are guessing who’s on his list.
This one?:

Maybe I missed it but how do we know the teams on his list?

Winnipeg is a very interesting fit. They have spent 1sts chasing 2nd line C rentals so would they pay big to get one for this year and 3 more? Their team is built to compete for the remainder of Kadri’s contract.
Toronto like Edmonton has nothing to offer. Treliving loves Kadri and of course they would love to get him back.
Ottawa with Stutzle, Cozens, Pinto they appear to be set for the foreseeable future.
Montreal makes arguably the most sense of all as he brings veteran leadership, grit etc to a young up and coming exciting team. As Kadri ages out Hage rises up and seems like a perfect fit for a team ahead of schedule.
Is Perfetti, Yager, 1st too much to ask? Probably right?
|
No chance you get that return for Kadri from Winnipeg. Understand that Kadri would help them immensely, but he is 35 with lots of contract left.

We don't. We know Carolina is not, he has said he would like Montreal or Toronto so they are on it. Things he's said seem to indicate he likes Canada and probably not the US.
He can't avoid putting any US teams on the list, obviously.

Which arose from a discussion of who is on his list. Teams which he prefers would be included.

If they can play .700 hockey in November, then it probably buys them another month before a decision is made. That's a tough ask, IMO.

You would be okay reducing the pool of potential teams from 18 to 6 if Kadri prefers to stay in Canada?
|
Sorry, misunderstood.
Yes, any team not on Kadri’s 13 team list is fair game. He may have a preference to stay in Canada and perhaps the Flames can accommodate that preference if the margins are extremely small between two teams but otherwise, Flames need to do what’s best for them and I’m sure Kadri is well aware of that having previously blocked a trade to Calgary only to be moved shortly afterwards to Colorado.

Yeah sorry, I misunderstood the context too apparently.
I agree, if the differences are minor and Kadri prefers one to another, we should try to accommodate.

Also (not that it's relevant to the inital point), a team that knows Kadri is keen on them might be prepared to offer more (and avoid a Carter/Columbus situation).

If Kadri was to create a list based purely on politics I imagine it would have: Van, Edm, Winn, Mont, Ott, NYR, NYI, LAK, Ana, SJ, Chi, Was, Seattle. Maybe sub one or two with the Devils, Minnie, Pitt or Phil. For sure he'd stay out of Carolina, Fla, TB, StL and Dallas.
Maybe he's willing to overlook red v blue for a real contender though.
If he wants to stay in Canada he could also manipulate the list to include US teams with solid centre depth, non contenders and teams with cap issues.

Kadri to Montreal makes a ton of sense. Would be a great fit for that young team with leadership.
to MTL
Kadri
2026 3rd
to CGY
Dach
Zharovsky
2026 1st
I think this is something realistic. Dach is an offload for them for cap to make the trade and gets a new opportunity in Calgary. Zharovsky is the skill player coming back along with the pick. Hage would be a great return, I just don't see Montreal giving him up.

Yeah that would be a great return, and as you said it feels realistic.
Checks alot of boxes for us. Dach is still young and at the very least is a good stop gap.
Zharovsky has a sky high ceiling, similar vibes to when the got Brz.

Dreger talking about how Murray doesn’t want to trade Kadri.
