No way the Blues tear it down where they are trading Thomas. Schenn, Parayko and maybe Kyrou sure but not your 26 year old center who over the last 4 seasons and 300+ games is over a point per game and signed long term
I will say if Thomas somehow is moved then I see a team trading a top prospect currently not in the NHL. Utah maybe going all in would have to put Iginla or Desnoyers in the deal or the Jackets with Lindstrom

Even their 2028 first isn't fully available because there are protections on the 2026 and 2027 picks they've traded that could move into 2028.

Thomas is also injured right now, though probably returning soon.

I just can’t see the Blues doing anything crazy as they seem better suited to retool on the fly with some of their young players. Cashing in on Parayko or Schenn makes sense and those would be the same teams in the Kadri/Andersson market

Yeah, no deals with Toronto please. Not just because they have nothing but we finally got Trelving deals off the books, don't need to have wacky conditions hanging over this team for another 5 years or whatever.

They should have switched the green color when they moved from Minnesota. Dallas need to pick one set of color for all of their sports franchises, and it should probably be the Dallas Cowboys blue/silver.
The Mavericks switched from Green to Blue.

The Leafs' 2028 first is my '#1 target' to get. I would love it if either Andersson or Kadri go to Toronto, and as part of the return, the 2028 pick comes back with conditions on it. The conditions being something like 2028 top 10 protected, and/or if the 2028 pick is moved as part of the previous conditions, then the 2029 pick is unprotected. I think they sink soon.
As for the long-term fit of Frost and Farabee - neither are long term fits, but both could be stop-gaps for now, especially Farabee.
It will be interesting to see how Frost does once Kadri is moved - will the increased opportunity and ice time result in more points? Or will the increased attention from defensive players end up stifling him? If Conroy could get a 2nd or better for him today, I would trade him. If not, then I would roll the dice that he increases his production, and perhaps next off-season or trade-deadline, he can be an asset.
I like Farabee's all-round game, other than his inability to score. We will see how that goes - he has been better lately. If he looks like he is rebounding, then I would hope he ends up being a long-term fit. As of right now, I just see him as a decent stop-gap to help shelter the youth, until he gets replaced.

The other day I saw a youtube thumbnail that seemed to be speculating on Coleman to the Leafs. I didn't bother watching or looking into it as it just seemed like clickbait. But it had me thinking how Coleman would have been a good add for the Leafs in the last few seasons. But based on what I've seen from them so far this year though I don't think they have the roster construction where adding him would be that effective at this point.

Like the morons who like to come after you, Sec and Diss, I am jealous that you have inside information. However, I differ from them because I ignore that jealousy and choose to appreciate you for the information you share.
I also have the ability to understand that you're sharing what you hear and that not everything is written in stone and paths to trades and signings are fluid take twists and turns based on many different factors.

They also seem due for some regression to the mean here.
54.06% xGF ranks 6th in the NHL. 0.939 PDO ranks last with their .837 save percentage by far being the worst in the NHL.
They are probably much better than their record indicates right now.

Knowing Tre, it would probably 2 pages worth of conditions that will leave us guessing which picks we get until 2030.

For context Frost was selected 27th overall, Zary was selected 24th overall.
|
In the scenario where the Flames trade Kadri? It depends on what comes back in the Kadri trade but unless there is a 'NHL ready C' coming back, the organization wouldn't have room to move out another C.

With Kadri gone, our C depth would be:
Frost
Backlund
Zary
Kirkland
Kerins
Morton
King
There is no room to trade either Frost or Zary as you would have no one left in the organization to play C. You wouldn't just be wrecking your NHL roster, the Wranglers would then get gutted to try and backfill the NHL roster with guys who are arguably not ready for the NHL. I can't imagine that would be good for anyone's development at either level.
Also, the Flames do not need more late 1st round picks. They have shrinking value for our depth chart as it just creates a logjam of what we already have. We need to prioritize converting quantity into quality.
Finally, we need to focus on trading for things we need (#1C & #1LD) by trading out assets we have a lot of (Wingers, RD). Trading out all of our Cs is basically the opposite of what we should be doing.
After the update on Kadri it seems like some of you folks have gotten a little drunk on the idea of trading away everyone on the NHL roster.

Whatever the number is, it will take a big bite out of the $17M in cap space they have remaining for next year with only 17/23 of their roster in place.
