Ive used mach 5's, safety razors, straight razors. I always felt the best shave was a 3-pass shave with my safety razor. I did have problems right under the nose with nicks over the years. Now I'm kinda a simple guy and just use proraso shaving cream and gillette TRAC II razor for my every day.

As far as aftershaves go, I always found old spice irritated my skin. I probably rocked stetson for 10+ years. Now they dont make it anymore so I have been trying out a few others. I actually recently have been rocking BRUT haha, i dont mind it...not too many compliments on that one. Works for my skin though. Before that i was using a Crown Shaving after shave tonic...I believe made in Ontario. I bought off amazon but it was expensive but it smelled great. Ill drop a link for that one.

Mach 5 in the shower. Find that once your skin is warmed up with the razor you don't need any shaving cream. Stubble easily washes down the drain. Done it so many times don't need a mirror. Just a quick check after usually good to go.

I would try the Henson razor that photon posted. It angles the blade to mimic a standard cartridge razor so it's much more forgiving than a standard safety razor. I use it in the shower and nics are extremely rare

I have a very thick beard, but it’s all grey. I keep it short and trimmed high on the neck.

I have a collection of vintage Gillettes going back over a century. All still perfectly usable. The butterfly adjustables like the late 50s Fatboy and early 60s Slim are amazing as you can adjust the blade gap for different part of the face, or thickness of stubble. In recent years there's been a renaissance and there's newer brands that emulate the classic Gillettes.

These days I pretty much use the same Merkur 34C, which is also the first safety razor I bought 15 years ago.

I have really thick facial hair that just gets stuck in and mucks up any multi blade drug store razor (though if I had to use one, the Schtick Quattros have a better cut than the gilette ones)

I've tried straight blades and if you take your time, you can get a good shave everywhere except your upper lip. But it still takes forever and the upper lip problem remains. But that is how I have done it for the past five or so years.

Might try the safety razors in this thread.

As far as lubricant goes, horsehair brush with cremo shave cream is great.

Shave with the Henson razor every morning in the shower. Beat razor I’ve ever had. No irritation, no in grown hairs, best experience.

For the stray whiskers around the mouth and philtrum (the fleshy ridge under the nose) I use my Ear & Nose Hair trimmer. Handy little gadget for grooming.

I always shave in the shower as the last thing I do to allow the moisture to get into the hairs a bit. You can get a mirror that hangs in the shower, put a little shampoo on it, rinse it, and then shave, which eliminates mirror fog, reminiscent of using a shield in hockey.

When I shave, I use a Harry's multiblade. I have considered a traditional one, but have never really felt the need. I used a badger hair and the blue round soap you get at Walmart. I have actually just been putting a bit of shampoo or body wash on my face because I have gotten even lazier.

One thing I heard/read about the disposable was that if you 'strop' it, you can remove the burs and extend the blade's life. Ideally, you could do it on a bit of denim, but if you do it on your forearm (go in reverse to how you would shave your arm) several times, it really does maintain the edge. I have been using the same cartridge for months. When I do put a new one in, it is initially way sharper, but it stays 'good enough' for way longer.

For safety razors, keep in mind they're not all ubiquitous. Each has different characteristics.

An adjustable razor is great because you can adjust between aggressive and less aggressive. Use level 1 to reduce nics, but need a few more passes. Go up in level once you're ready to finish off in less passes/closer shave. You can also adjust the razor based on the characteristics of the blades, to get ideal comfort.

Fixed saftey razor, you'll have to figure out how aggressive it is on its own plus how the blades affects how aggressive the shave is. I think a Henson is similar to a level 1 based on what I've read about it, but I've never used one. Entry level saftey razors are often in the level 1-2 range. Rock well has adjustable fixed that is 1 or 2 for the 2C depdning how you screw the plate on, or 1-6 depending on which 3 plates for the 6C/S. I think Merkur is a little more aggressive in the 2-3 range.

However, differences in razor blades can affect this aggressiveness, so you have to test. It's a combination of sharpness and rigidity that changes this. I gave away all my Rockwell blades and go back and forth between feather and Astra based on mood.

I'm a oneblade guy too. Easy shave without agitating my skin at all.

I find if you bald the base it really helps the look. Can even leave the other parts unruly.

I use Feather blades in a Merker 33C. KoI badger brush.

Life brand sensitive skin shave gel if I don't have anything else.

Best shaving cream I have found so far is Kent. Allows me to do an extremely close shave without irritation.

On another note, I am very lackadaisical about shaving, I generally only get serious about it when I have to attend a formal event and know there are going to be photos or something.

To that end...I have now twice, before said events, gone and gotten a Professional Hot Shave from my Barber.

Worth. Every. Penny.

It looks great, it feels great, I'd never had it dont Professionally before but...before special occasions and such? I'll be getting that done more regularly.

the only thing Ill add here, is, I had no idea how important the gel/foam was or, at least, how much I preferred one or the other until recently.

Long story short I was using the foamy stuff for a few weeks until I went out and bought some new gel. I find the gel infinitely superiour, and could never go back to the foam

I use a Brain series 5 electric shaver. Somewhere along the way my dad tried electric and never went back so that's what he taught me. In turn I have taught my sons the same.

I could but I don't need to shave daily. Every other day should be what I do but quite often I'll be lazy or just run out of time in the morning and go a week between shaves. I've had a goatee for over 20 years now and just shave my cheeks and neck which is the areas where I don't grow hair very well or quick.

The three or four times I've completely shaved my goatee and tried to stick with it I did have have to shave my chin and lip daily.

First off I have to shave daily. If I don't i'll look like Grizzly Adams in a week.

I use bar soap and Shick Hydro blades. I also use a NORELCO Philips Bodygroom Series 1100 facial hair in an around my ears.

I dislike shaving - I just trim back my stubble about once per week.

I usually rock stubble or a small beard. Millennial style. Outside of doing a full shave every now and then for the lawls, I have had stuble or a beard since 2010.

I usually shave part of my neck, to keep it somewhat neat. I use a safety razor and badger brush.

The two products i recommend to everyone:

An alum block. Complete necessity for razor burn. it costs like 10 bucks and lasts forever.

I used to go through beard trimmers like pencils. I find the batteries just give out so quick. So i bought a Wahl Cord trimmer

https://ca.wahl.com/products/elite-p...nl5abL_hZ8tgjJ

It's powerful and doesn't die on you. Some oil before use is all the maintenance you need. Have had it for a decade.
