I just hope CC can capitalize early, afraid that if we wait the market will be watered down and the dance partners will dwindle. Happens often that teams come out of the wood work to throw in the towel. I agree with the list Aarongavy posted but who knows with the Islanders if a Horvat or Barzal become available, or with the state of the Rangers possibly Zibanejad, Trocheck or JT Miller

Geez just a couple years ago some fans would have given away a 1st for a team to take on Kadri's contract.

Fantastic for the Flames to see how things have changed.

Yep, and that could be a benefit if the focus is on 2026 picks, because then they'd likely (unless Treliving gets involved in a trade...complications) just simply slide to 2027 unprotected.

Same could be said of 2027 picks of course, but I doubt the Flames have much interest in 2028 picks (although I would - increased chances of hitting gold due to year to year insanity of the NHL)

Yeah...if the market is hot for centers and Kadri is the best available don't drag this out too long.

Don't rush the trade but don't let somebody else come over the top.

Rhett, are you aware, if the Flames would do with retention on Kadri's 3 remaining years?

I think Conroy would be willing to play that game. He did with Vegas.

23/24 season had the following teams all in the top 11 teams:

NYR - #1OV
BOS
Nash
Van

If you were willing to wait all 4 of these teams would have been buyers just a couple years ago.

Kadri has earned his cap hit every year he has worn the Flames jersey. I know his slow start in 23/24 season had some people jumping to that conclusion after a rough end to 2023.

Markstrom went from costing assets to dump after 2023 to getting the team a 1st and Bahl.

Not necessarily. If they are traded 25% of the way through the season. 25% will count towards the Flames cap (unless I missed a rule update. Even then, Rasmus is all but guaranteed to be retained for a 2.45m hit.

Also, I think we'd be foolish to think roster players won't be involved in Conroy's trades.

I want the Brock Nelson package. Center prospect, 1st and 3rd. Fill in the blank for who the center should be

The conditions are perfect for leaning into the rebuild: prices are high for our guys, the upcoming draft class looks strong, and the team is off to a historically bad start. Management has to have the courage to pivot to a full rebuild.

Stankoven, 2027 1st and 2026 2nd - does that get it done?

If demand is high, that might be low.

I wonder if we can get Jesperi Kotkaniemi too, maybe send them Popsicle back? He’s a centre. LOL

So:

Stankoven, Kotkaniemi, 2027 1st and 2026 2nd

For

Kadri, Pospisil, 4th

If they want to go full rebuild, I still will be watching every game, either live or on TV. It will suck, but it's better than cruising around as the best of the non-playoff teams. That isn't very fun either.
I think Conroy can build this into a strong team every year, but they need to scout well, develop players, and spend properly.
