A loss today would be a monumental moment. The bigger chasm gets, the more likely we are to see the team truly embrace it.

I think Jiri in the other thread is likely on to something and that Kadri's contract clause now being known/openly discussed is likely no mistake. It could be an indication of either the team or the player beginning to look at the market and what could be. Another loss before heading off on the road could be significant from a momentum perspective.

1-8-1 in a 10 game stretch to start the season would be massive in Mission McKenna.

It's a great day for Flames hockey.

Huska is certainly sending a message. Coronato has not been good, especially in the previous game.

Benching Coronato makes the team objectively worse, but we'll see if it pays off in the long run.

Don't go on Twitter then. It's nothing but whining.

I've had to start muting accounts because it's been nothing but constant complaining all season even from the team tankers who should be happy they're getting what they want.

Not like the team needs goals or anything
Lomberg has been doing his job.

Not that plus minus is a be all end all indicator, especially with how the season has started but Lomberg is a +1, Coronato is a -9.

Nothing wrong with giving Coronato a reset for a game or two.

It's actually a GOOD thing if the Flames lose, and at best, their record this year is mostly meaningless. What matters is player development. And that means young guys should be in the AHL. And it means guys should sit in the press box when they're not playing well. That is EXACTLY what a good coach should be doing, with a young rebuilding team. It's literally what you all want.

But the moment he actually does it, everyone whines like a bunch of spoiled children.
And young players should be held accountable, just like the vets. Unless you think accountability isn't necessary for development.

I doubt it's resting on his laurels as much as it is handling his new world with a fat contract. He may be trying to do too much, which could result in him losing his focus and not playing to the coaches' expectations.

I still remember when Roman Turek got a fat new contract after that hot start in '01-02. That's exactly what happened to him. He thought he had to do more to justify the money, and ended up doing the wrong things. What he should have done was carry on playing exactly the way that got him that contract, but he pressured himself into losing his game.

It's definitely a risk when a player gets a massive raise.

No problem with Coronato being scratched. Lomberg's been much better over his last 4 games so good to see his game picking up too.

Lomberg is the best. So good. Play him 20 minutes a game. #### all these skill guys! We need heart and soul guys! He’s good for at least 5 goals a season! #### Coronato.

Scratching Coronato for the game against his hometown NYR? That's gonna sting.

I don't mind the decision though, he wasn't great last game and I had a feeling he was going to score tonight.. last year he found his scoring touch after the NY roadtrip.

Obviously Huska playing 4D chess and trying to avoid a Coronato hat-trick tonight. Team tank thanks you sir.

Please, please just stay out of the penalty box. Felt like we played a man down the entire game in Winnipeg.

Lomberg is a footnote in Flames history.

If we’re highlighting things like his game is getting better, then we are in big trouble. There’s almost nothing he can do to change the course of a game. If he could, he would influence it.

When you’re having passionate arguments with a person/position you totally made up, it might be time to take a break.

I think its a mutual decision from both sides.
Kadri would very much welcome a rebuild and ride out his time here helping the team do so, he's been very vocal about that.

But he see's the direction, and the value he brings in the market and will likely give Craig options to trade him if that's what CGY wants to do. I think in a perfect world he would choose to stay here, but he's not about sinking the Flames even further which is why he's been okay with modifying his clause.

I definitely agree with the moves.

Coronato hasn't been effective at all, and the penalties he took were just terrible. I think this is a good message.

Frost away from center? I will take some flak for this, but hallelujah! I think Frost is what he is at this point - a slightly below a .5PPG player. Sure, he is only 26, but this a vet of over 300 games now. I think he is fairly close to his ceiling. I just don't see him as a player that is going to be a fit long-term for this organization. I am hoping that the Canucks or some other team that is wanting a center focus on him.

I would rather have those minutes go to Zary, and either rule him out as a C after a nice LONG run of it, or try Kerins as the 3C. Zary is 24, and has only played 126 games, but has been all around this lineup - every line, and every position. Give him some stability at C, and see how he responds. He may - or may not - be a long-term solution for this team either.

I feel there is more of a question mark (or possiblity?) with Zary, whereas I feel that Frost isn't a question mark at all, and will either be traded away at some point, or walks as a UFA.

So did he modify the clause earlier than was originally agreed to?

I'm guessing the people suprised with Coronato sitting didn't watch the last game...he took 2 dumb penalties. Might just need a reset, he was sat last year too.

Yes, he's modified his no move to a modified no-trade clause.
