3 wards that will have councilors that will definitely vote to repeal blanket zoning.
3 wards that will not be affected in the least by blanket rezoning.
I hope the good folks of Auburn bay will sleep easy at night knowing they won't have to worry about someone tearing down the 3 year old house next to them and putting up a 4 plex......
I say this as a supporter of blanket rezoning who lives in an inner city neighborhood that is very strongly affected by it.

Yeah, I don't keep reusable bags in my pocket. (I can count on one hand the number of times I've taken a car grocery shopping in the last 15 years.)
I think it's a dumb policy and in our household case it has probably increased our overall consumption considering the abundance of reusable bags we've collected.
I'm just thankful that my kids are almost out of the "mash their paper straw into pulp so they can't finish their drink" phase.

I’d guess most of the lots would be way too narrow in these wards for 4 plex’s anyways.
My dad who lives in a suburb in the NW was completely opposed to the blanket re zoning because “it would #### up all the parking on the street”. He lives in a 55+ townhouse complex with a condo board that in no way would ever allow a 4 plex to be built. He also never visits any of the communities that are experiencing densification, the whole thing was too weird.

After several days canvassing for Forever Canadian in front of a Safeway store it was funny all the people walking out carrying several items in their hands and arms. My wife and I are never without a permanent bag.

That's me half the time, I usually remember I need something on the way home from work and stop in while I have about a dozen reusable bags at home.
Only thing that has changed for me is I now have to buy small plastic garbage bags instead of getting a 2nd use out of the old Safeway plastic bags.

I do 6 item shops all of the time, because I refuse to take a plastic bag if they offer, I refuse to buy a reusable bag, because I have a basket with 700 of them in my pantry, and I never remember to bring one with me, so six items a day, 5 days a week. then 1 larger shop on the weekend twice a month.

But you could at little convenience to yourself.
It’s interesting that people who seem to struggle with it a bit think the policy itself is the problem or try to make things political and the people who don’t also don’t seem to care either way.
I find it very easy and I can’t say I’ve thought about any related policies or viewed bags through a political lens at any point unless someone specifically brings it up.
If they allowed all the free plastic bags you wanted and stopped selling or giving away reusable bags it wouldn’t impact my life at all.

If you look around, they actually have very good bags that you can carry around really easily. They’re made in a material almost like those thin rain coats that compress into almost nothing.

Re-zoning is loved by most wealthy right wing friends. This is not partisan.
I can make a fatatonne putting an 80-plex on this lot and screw everyone from miles around. That is as right wing as it can be.
Fake left developers are the worst of all them.

I am not sure. Developers hate it because they want to build just in greenfield lots where it’s cheap for them to build. You’re not going to see the Wenzels tearing down SFH in the ‘burbs to build a duplex or fourplex. I am pretty sure they view rezoning to R-CG as taking a piece of out their pie.

WTF do you not carry reusable bags in your vehicles? My wife insists on having about 20. Truth.

People may laugh at the Landon Johnson for winning but in a conversation the other day with 2 council members and associated staff (re-elected and stepping down) his ground game was extremely strong. It sounds like he reached out to a lot of political people and picked their brains on how to turn this into a winning campaign.
He is not my ward and I don't know anything about him but this has the civic version of Ruth Ellen Brosseau written all over it, the famous NDP bartender MP who ended up being an amazing NDP MP for her people. People laughed at her but was considered a great MP.
