As a Mariners fan, this was a really fun ride this season, obviously sad for the way it ended. I somehow have to think that the baseball Gods did not look kindly on the Mariners fans booing Springer in game 5.
I'm going to lick my wounds tonight and my Jays hat will go on tomorrow. It was a memorable series and not one I'll forget.
Enjoy your victory and beat the Dodgers!!!!
Sorry to quote my own post. So I coach my son's little league baseball team and I left for our practice last night when the Mariners were up. I had the radio broadcast on my boombox and heard the collapse in real time. I don't know why, but when the final out happened, I didn't show much emotion. I simply said to the boys "Seattle Mariners baseball has a way of pulling and breaking your heart".
For me it was cathartic being out there, just teaching the game with kids who are having fun and just want to play. This morning felt like I had a hangover, I woke up upset (not mad) just that the fun ride was over for now.
I'll need a couple days before I put my Blue Jays gear on, this one just hurts. I'm going to be sad once the World Series is over, this winter I don't have much to cheer for as the Flames look awful, yet I'll still watch, because they're my team and have been since I was a kid (much like the Mariners and the Jays).
Sorry for the rant, this one just hit hard. I'm glad I got to be there for game 5 to see the Mariners get as close as they ever have been. I'll be pulling for you and joining in on the conversation as a Jays fan. I just need to lick my wounds a bit......
The first one was more of a strike than the second one. The second one caught the zone by millimetres and could just as easily be called a ball. The first one looked like the entire ball was within the strike zone
Human-called balls & strikes should be a thing of the past, in my opinion.
MLB keeps scoffing at technology objectively far more accurate, for the sake of hanging on to tradition. While sometimes it makes sense to hang on to tradition, I don't think this is one of those cases.

I'm not sure about the US, but here in Canada I ALWAYS find cheaper on Ticketmaster resale/late release tickets for Flames and concerts. It always annoys how their menu starts with "tickets starting at $48" to a Flames game. But then when you click on the actual game they post fees all in prices, so that $48 is now $71, then it's all US prices, so that $48 you saw turns into $100.
At that point I check Ticketmaster and almost everything on their whether it's jacked up original prices or verified resale comes in cheaper than game time.

Yep and instead of just using the technology to call balls and strikes like they should, they're going to have this ######ed challenge system which is still going to result in human error being a big factor at times. It won't take long before some team uses up their challenges in an important game and then the ump will blow a huge ball or strike call and the team won't be able to challenge it because of the ridiculous challenge system they are implementing.
