Felt really good for Basha after being a healthy scratch for a couple of games. Sutter is definitely easing the rookies into it with fairly limited ice time.

Looking forward to the home opener on Friday!
I hadn't realized he was scratched.

Not knowing what to expect of Owen Say previously, I have to say Say's been a revelation.

It hasn't been too early to Say because there's a lot to Say.

He's only 20, my guess is they are easing him in slowly.

Kerins gets 1g, 1a, and a +1. Tied for 7th in scoring, with 5gp/3g/4a/7pts,+1, 2 PIM.
Stromgren gets 2a, and a +2. 5gp/0g/4a/4pts,+5, 4 PIM, tied for 14th in plus/minus.
Gridin gets 1g, 1a, and a +1. Tied for 32nd in scoring, with 3gp/3g/2a/5pts,+1, 2 PIM. (10th in ppg with 1.67)
Silye gets 1a, and a +1. 4gp/0g/1a/1pt,-1, 0 PIM.
Cicek gets 1a. Tied for 19th in scoring by D, with 5gp/1g/2a/3pts,-2, 2 PIM.
Basha gets 1a, but was -1. 4gp/1g/1a/2pts,-1, 0 PIM.
Hunt is tied for 18th in scoring, with 4gp/2g/4a/6pts,+2, 16 PIM.

My assumption also.

They did the same to Bru when he first entered the league.

despite the loss, some beautiful high skill plays on the goals

Basha's assist was great
Stromgren's outlet, then Gridin's one touch pass to Kerins was more skill than any Flame has shown this season
Stromgren had another beautiful assist on Gridin's goal

Flip side, Cicek looked like an Oiler defender. Two horrendous giveaways on the first two goals

I'm disappointed Morin isn't playing. It's a developmental league, players need to play to develop.

This issue will resolve itself once the Flames start their selloff, but that might not happen for a while yet.

Poirier, Miro, and Cicek have no NHL upside, we don't need three of these guys taking up space on the farm team.

I went to check out the Wranglers game tonight. With so many high end prospects on the roster, I'd like to get out to more games this year.

Here are some thoughts

- Basha - dynamic as hell, fastest player on the ice, plays with a lot of jam. Injured a Firebird player when he finished his check in the dzone (the hit wasn't dirty).
- Kuznetsov - got walked multiple times, had a rough outing
- Gridin - thought he had a quiet night but then he came out of nowhere to setup Morton for an empty net goal with another elite one touch pass
- Grushnikov - gap control is great, physical on the boards, and picks great spots to step up and make a hit. Not a great puckhandler. Not sure that's something he can overcome at the next level.
- Stromgren - he's blessed with the same physical gifts as Honzek, but doesn't have the same motor or compete level. A taste of the NHL at some point this season might be a motivator for him.
- Brz - his vision is elite (at this level anyway), his defensive reads are excellent, his puck handling skills are a step above everyone else around him. He looks a bit too good for the AHL.
- I didn't notice either of them much, but it occured to me that the 4th line is Taco Bell!

Hunter is now PPG.

Not sure what they're doing with Miromanov, maybe they just can't get anyone to take him. Him eating popcorn as the 8th guy on the Flames is whatever, but we don't need him taking ice time from our own prospects on the Wranglers

I also made it out to Wranglers game tonight and echo what Calgary Highlander said. Basha stood out in a positive way all night. Bruz was also good...he was the Wrangler's best defensemen and the only thing that will hold him back from the NHL is his skating. Stromgren continues to be skilled, but inconsistent. Hunt looked great...he was the best forward. Like Stromgren, Morton was quiet for long stretches of the game, but then he'd pop up out of nowhere and score a goal/create a scoring opportunity. Suniev was quiet and didn't do much out there.

Miromanov and Poirier were awful. Poirier is noticeable in a bad way because he keeps making the same mistakes and risky plays he was making as a rookie. There was one shift early in the game where he turned over the puck 3-4 times in the Wrangler's zone and neutral zone...absolutely brutal. The lack of growth in his game is really disappointing.

Miromanov did not look like someone that has spent more time in the NHL than the AHL for the past three seasons. He was making terrible reads the entire night.

As for lines, it looked like they were running these at ES:

Frk-Kerins-Hunt
Gridin-Morton-Stromgren
Basha-Bishop-Suniev
Bell-King-Silye

Cicek-Brzustewicz
Grushnikov-Miromanov
Kuznetsov-Poirier

3) Dryden Hunt, with 2a, and a +2. 5gp/2g/6a/8pts,+4, 18 PIM, he is 7th in AHL scoring.

Wranglers have a chance at being a good team but they aren’t playing sound hockey. The number of turnovers on a nightly basis is surprising, especially for some of the older guys (by the way, these are only my thoughts, not Carter’s). Still early so lots of time to iron that out. As for Carter, I’m not surprised at the lack of offense so far. He’s been mostly fourth line which is understandable for a rookie behind Kerins, Morton and Bishop. Sutter does try to move him up when possible. This has also been his pattern at a new level - focus on the defensive side and being dependable first and then the offense comes later. He’s only been on the ice for one 5x5 goal against in 8 games and his faceoffs have been off the charts. A ridiculous 81% going into this weekend. Lots of work to do but I think he’s doing what he should be so far.

Kerins should be playing with the flames and Bishop should be taking a grinding role on the squad, IMO. Miromanov also shouldn't be playing for the wranglers given where we are in our development cycle.

Ultimately, this is another symptom of hanging on to aging players too long for indescribable reasons. We should have sold players off our roster this summer to make room for prospects throughout the organization.

Oct.28th:

Wranglers prevail over Abbotsford by a score of 3-0.

-Gallant piled up 27 PIMs tonight, 5 for fighting, Game Misconduct-Aggressor, 2 for instigating, and 10 for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. The only Abbotsford penalty on the play was 2 minutes to Chase Wouters for Boarding.
-Prosvetov sits at 2-1-1-1, with a 3.49 GAA, and an .897 SV%.
-Kerins is tied for 7th in AHL scoring, with 7gp/4g/5a/9pts,+2, 2 PIM.
-Hunt is tied for 13th in AHL scoring, with 6gp/2g/6a/8pts,+5, 18 PIM.
-Gridin is tied for 19th in scoring, with 5gp/3g/4a/7pts,+2, 2 PIM.
-Bru is tied for 19th in scoring (and is tied for 2nd in scoring by D), with 7gp/3g/4a/7pts,+1, 2 PIM.
