We are at a weird confluence of motives right now, neither Hamas nor Israel really want this to stop but Israel needs to get back some international support and desperately needs to not piss off the US right now and Hamas while loving the death and destruction realizes it might actually lose Gaza completely, which would make the death and destruction pointless

My guess is both sides go for a peace deal of sorts certain in the knowledge the idiots in Hamas will start firing rockets in a couple of weeks to months time giving Israel the excuse it needs to start invading again

Hamas to release hostages and lay down arms. Israel to withdraw from Gaza in peace deal brokered by Trump.

Great news!!

lol, “brokered by Trump.” Trump who, for months, pushed for Gaza to be obliterated. Then a peace deal gets signed on the cusp of the Nobel being awarded. How can people be this stupid?

If we gotta fake it in order for them to stop massacring those people, sure… #### it. Hopeful that those responsible for this will face consequences one day.

If that was Trumps motivation to threaten Israel to end it that’s a win for the people in Gaza.

But now that he's lost I would expect he turns the green light back on to pummel the rest of Gaza.

Look, I really don’t care if Trump was the main factor or not. But I am very happy that this conflict may be over! Some believe that Trump was a major factor in this process.

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.6934246

Regardless, we should all be happy that the war appears to be coming to an end.

I don’t see why people wouldn’t be happy with this outcome.

We don’t know what the outcome actually is yet.

Not everyone has been “I’m glad there’s no starvation!”ing themselves through this conflict. We’ll see how this actually plays out, but regardless, I don’t “happiness” is something you feel when tens of thousands of innocent people have been murdered. Potential relief the killing will stop? Sure. But we’ll see.

I think this conflict was going one of three ways;

Doesn’t end for an extended period of time (decades).

One side totally eliminates the other side.

Peace deal reached with the help of other countries.

Other people may see it differently, but with these theee options, I am happy with a peace deal.

Unfortunately the long standing effects of diseases like Tuberculosis will not disappear with war. the suffering will continue.

That's solvable with some rats.

Rats and diseases. Is there anything they can't do?

It's way way too late. Of course I'm glad it's over (if it actually is), but the suffering and death to get here is completely unacceptable.

From a peace standpoint, they already created the next 20 years of terrorists.

Donald Trump is a POS.

The situation is horrific for the Gazans, and will continue to be so for decades.

Israel will continue to be attacked by terrorists.

Everyone is still better off today than they were yesterday, and thousands of lives have been saved as a result of this cease fire. It's ok to recognize that. For the first time in years, there's a tiny amount of hope.

It would have been better if it was earlier, of course.

But to say it’s too late, is just a lazy statement. It’s not too late. If innocent lives will be saved, then it’s not too late.

Have you seen aerial photos of Gaza......it's too late for almost all infrastructure needed in a 3rd World Country

The buildings can be rebuilt. The lives that have been saved by this conflict ending is what is important.

If I was going to argue anything, I would be saying this conflict should never have started, but here we are.

I’m sure it is.

But that doesn’t mean that people should have let this conflict go on longer.

I find it strange that people aren’t happier that we are close to peace in the region.
