So, finally, a few countries from the west are joining the majority of the rest of the world in acknowledging the Palestinian people and recognizing Palestine as an actual state.

As a matter of fact, I believe you and I had a back and forth discussion on it. I don’t feel the need to rehash it all over again. I’m not going to change your opinion, and you’re not going to change mine.

Rather ironic that Canadas actions today meet the goal of the Harper quote quite well.

The kid on the street no-one wants their kids to play with.
But no doubt we'll hear how it's all antisemitism to be repulsed by their genocide.

Israelis are sounding an awful lot like Germans in Berlin during WWII. It's so easy to excuse a genocide when you can paint the other side as non-human, it's frightening that it seems to be the majority opinion in Israel

Is it the majority opinion in Israel though? Honestly don't know and also hard to believe, actually. I feel like this genocide is all due to the people in their government being genocidal psychos keen on wiping out as many Palestinians that they can, knowing they can continue to do it because the west won't do anything to stop them (which makes those countries' governments terrible as well, just not *as* bad). But if I had to guess, I'd guess that the opinion in Israel that Palestinians are seen as not human would be low. Like, below 25%. It's just that they can't do anything about it because it's their government's position. Israel needs democracy, then they'd be able to change things!

Next race in Spain - Giro dell'Emilia in Bologna has removed Israel Premier Tech from starting race (due to safety concerns) Bike sponsor and title sponsor have requested a name and flag (country of origin) change for the team or they are out next year. (Bike sponsors CEO is Jewish)

9. Gaza will be administered by a temporary, transitional government of Palestinian technocrats who will be responsible for providing day-to-day services for the people of the Strip. The committee will be supervised by a new international body established by the US in consultation with Arab and European partners. It will establish a framework for funding the redevelopment of Gaza until the Palestinian Authority has completed its reform program.

I think you are confusing the bike sponsor CEO Rob Gitelis with the owner of the team Sylvan Adams, the bike Sponsor (Factor) is threatening to withdraw support of the team unless the team rebrands and changes country of registration.

Hamas says it agreed to release all Israeli hostages, alive or dead, and expressed willingness to negotiate through mediators on President Donald Trump's plan for peace in the Middle East.
The group "affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement," it said in a statement on Friday.

Happy to see this. Hope to see Israel follow through - as Language said, the war should be over as soon as the hostages are released. Look forward to it.

I'll never understand what advantage Hamas thought they were gaining by keeping those hostages. Gaza is rubble now and thousands are dead.

To this understand it, you would actually have to believe that Hamas cares one bit about the structures in Gaza or the people in Gaza.
They don’t.
If they did, they would not have planned and followed through with the terrorist attacks on October 7th.
I hope that Hamas is sincere, wanting this conflict to end. And I also hope that Israel holds up their end of the deal. This has gone on far too long.

Encouraging signs. The bloodshed needs to end, the hostages need to come home, and Gaza needs a lasting peace.

I read a lot about how Hamas offered the hostages in return for Israel not entering Gaza via ground invasion. And Israel rejected the offer. Was offered in the first couple months of the conflict. If true, the hostages have really just a pawns that Israel used as cover to commit genocide. Not sure if true, but interesting if so.

Colour me skeptical.
Israel is going to find a way to weasel out of this, not hold up their end of the bargain and blame Hamas for it. Israel is incapable of living in peace with their neighbours. A prosperous and peaceful Palestine is not in their interests.

I think (and hope) that the enormous amount of international pressure that Israel has seen has shown them that they won’t be able to carry out things the way they wanted to, and that even US support has a tipping point.
This is their opportunity to save face and buy back political capital by saying “see we have restraint”. But (if this goes through) time will tell how serious they are, because the world will be watching as they have to rebuild essentially all of Gaza.

All they care about is power. They got two really important things:
1. World sympathy. They goaded Israel into actions that ended up overshadowing the original heinous acts of October 7th. They don't care about the amount of civilian lives lost, anything making Israel lose favour in the international community helps their cause.
2. A generation of recruits. There are a ton of children and young people who had their homes bombed, their family members killed, and their lives destroyed. There's enough anger for Hamas to tap into for the foreseeable future to bolster their ranks as needed.
Things will not be like Northern Ireland where they have been gradually working past the hate together, with tensions fizzling and people living as neighbours more and more. This is going to be more like the former Yugoslavia which ended in horrendous conflict and genocide, and now a population that formerly lived among each other is completely segregated even within the split of nations that formed, and things remain on a knife's edge.
