We also have to remember that Cooley apparently wasn't getting coaching, IIRC. It isn't a huge reach to expect growth in his game.
I do think it is a step down from Vladar, but this is a young team that isn't trying to win a cup this year. Development needs to be prioritized over success, IMO. Ideally they should come along hand in hand, but often the expectation of success leaves little regard to patience in development.

Vladar is starting the season as Ersson's backup and you can make a case that Ersson is a backup quality goaltender right now so I'm not sure it's this huge step down that some fans seem to think. Vladar had to go on a heater in the final months of the season to dig himself out of the very bottom of the league statistically.

We are a bad team on paper, but Wolf will probably steal a bunch of points like last year and carry us to being a bubble team.

Recall in my opinion, makes perfect sense...
i.e. recall a winger,
Clearly, he is next up in the depth charts

Conroy was saying on 960 that Huska asked for Honzek specifically.
Not sure when he gets in but he felt he made strides as a PK winger, and has the speed and size that Huska thinks they could utilize.

Especially against a team like the Oilers who can exploit bad defence. Of course he could equally exploit their bad defence.

I'm sure it played a role nonetheless.
Liked him for his penalty killing I think was what he said. So really, given he might get in on Thursday and then can go right back down without risking waivers it all makes sense.

I can't find the interview but he spoke way back when he was first signed that he didnt really have a technical coach for most of the years he was goalie. He just went out and scrambled to make saves. He was enjoying the structure and plan that the goalie coach of the wranglers gave him. I dont think it was that he never had coaches, just that the coaches he had for a while weren't able to address his technical concerns.

As others have mentioned, Parekh is probably missing only the 1st game. He is going to get a lot of games and playing time this year. Many feel they're protecting him in game 1 which is on the road against the highest scoring duo of the past several years. How many games did Hutson get until he had to face them? Probably not game 1 in the road. I think they may have let Parekh play game 1 if it was a home game where they can shelter him against that duo. Build his confidence and watch him grow.

Got it. Yes I've heard the same, that prior to joining the Flames, he hadn't received a lot of coaching around structure. And that's been the focus of the coaching staff with him here.
It wasn't clear if the original post was referring lack of coaching before joining the Flames or during his time with the Flames.

Hutson is also a full two years older than Zayne as well.

Edit: also hoping to see Andersson & another vet traded

Andersson and Coleman. It's time.
Blake could land a nice TDL return if he's doing his usual thing out there.
Hopefully we come out with a couple more 2nds, maybe another 1st.

Vladar had an .898 last season amd was still .500
Some of you over hype his play and downplay how the Flames played as a team

Vladar is such an enigma because within the context of the games when the flames were often much looser playing in front of him against some good opponents, he really stood his ground at times. But it was rarely reflected in the actual numbers since he was often hung out to dry.
He did have a number of solid outings down the stretch too, which balanced out a tough start.
Flames were a different team in front of Vlad than Wolf so his games were a different beast and he usually rose to the occasion.
And if he did have a stinker period he would bounce back with a solid one. Resilient goalie, and a good backup. I wouldnt have him as more than that though.

If I recall correctly, there was also a period between December and February where it was almost a scheduled loss to put him in. His play and numbers were terrible. He struggled for a large portion of last season.

It is really a no lose season for the team again. Do poorly? Okay, draft high. Same as last year? Okay, meaningful games all season. Improvement over last season? Playoffs.
