Also even if Stan only wins 1 or 2 GS's his backhand alone may put him over the top for me especially given the decline of OHBH use as we may never see one that good again.

“For me, he was part of this Big Four era,” Wawrinka told Express Sport about Murray.

“From 18 years old until 30 he was always fighting with the Big Three, he was always there.

“Let’s put it that way, he won ‘only’ three because all the other [players] were taking but he was always in the final, he was always winning a lot.

For me, his career is nothing compared to mine. He’s way ahead, he won many more titles, things than me, and his level was close to the Big Three for 10 years.”
Pretty wild that they both have the same number of slams. Humble of Wawrinka, but he's absolutely spot on, Murray was on another level for much longer than Stan the Man.

Speaking of Andy, he's pretty good with the flat stick as well...

I totally agree but sports are entertainment first and foremost. Who would you rather pay to watch? Peak Murray or peak Stanimal? I do think that aesthetics matter as it's kind of what separates Nadal/Federer from Novac. Nobody can dispute Djokovic's merits, but if you could only watch two of the big three I'm wagering that 98% of tennis fans are taking Nadal and Federer.

I always enjoyed watching Andy, for the most part anyway. Peak vs peak you go with Wawrinka.

Homogeneous surfaces can be a problem, but dragging Sincaraz into it is just…yea

Quote:
Alexander Zverev on Saturday accused tennis authorities of favouring top-ranked rivals Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in their choice of court surfaces, echoing criticisms made by Roger Federer.

Some in tennis have charged that courts in tournaments have become too standardised and generally slower, which could give an advantage to certain players.

Asked his opinion after his straight-sets victory over Valentin Royer at the Shanghai Masters, Zverev was unequivocal.

"I hate when it's the same," said the 28-year-old German, who is ranked third in the world, behind Alcaraz and Sinner.

"I know the tournament directors are going towards that direction because obviously they want Jannik and Carlos to do well at every tournament, and that's what they prefer."

This guy loves to play the victim and/or is always quick with the excuses. Take a look in the mirror buddy, that's the biggest obstacle you have to overcome.

Both Shapo and Felix won their matches in straight sets over O'Connell and Tabilo respectively. Shapo gets Lehecka next while Felix will face Jesper De Jong who upset Jakub Mensik.

What a redemption arc for Amanda Anisimova, after getting double bagelled in the Wimbledon final by Iga, she rebounds to make the US Open final (beating Iga in the quarter-finals) and earlier today she dusted Coco 6-1 6-2 to make the China Open final.

Even when the court is fast he can't push top players with his popgun forehand anyway, it would only benefit his service holds a bit. As more Sincaraz generation players come up and improve, I don't see Dverev even reaching another GS final

Somebody posted on Twitter that in five of his last six grand slam tourneys, Zverev has lost to a player not named Sinner or Alcaraz. He should be worrying more about trying to beat those guys than the current top 2 guys in the game.

Also, maybe Zverev should just do the tiniest bit of research before running his mouth...Over 50% of the Masters 1000 courts are medium-fast.

It's not the surface, Zverev just plays too passive.

Exactly right - Waiting for an error from your opponent instead of having enough confidence in your own game to seize the moment. Not willing to take a risk and hitting the ball close to the lines and instead playing through the center of the court. Eventually, you're going to hit a short ball and these guys are so good these days that they will make you pay.

Even though Felix lost to Sinner in the US Open semi-finals, he went down swinging because he knows the only way to be successful is quick strike tennis. Zverev has the weapons (well, his forehand is still not that good), but he doesn't use them when he needs to use them.
