McKenzie, reached by phone on Wednesday, said the fire was “not as big” as officials said it was.

“The building is a four-hour burn time. In other words, it’s like a concrete bunker,” he told CTV News.

“The only way that there was a fire in there was somebody that used accelerant.”

McKenzie said demolition of the building has been ongoing for some time, with crews at the scene on Sept. 30.

Went by it earlier today. Except for the mop up CFD crews, it doesn't look much different. Concrete doesn't burn very well.

Yeah, yeah, but people dont realize that the Legion was housing most of the crackheads and junkies and now they're going to be wandering the streets or occupying the Ogden Block.

I know but I wonder if the parking charges materially affected Sbux sales from that location.

I hate to say it but...the abandoned Legion was as close to a 'Safe Injection Site' as Ogden had. It kept things contained.

That mall is basically in the richest part of Calgary, they probably tip city workers.

And the Sbux was expanded. Strange. There’s also a Monogram Coffee a few doors down.

As already mentioned, Starbucks are chopping locations left, right, and centre. Unprofitable, profitable, new, old, etc. Monogram wouldn't have helped them. But I'm sure that this is a Starbucks issue vs. a parking issue.

Parking is like a buck an hour. While paying for parking sucks anywhere, the smart folks know that the Park Plus app is the best way to feed the necessary evil. Grabbing a coffee to go would be like $0.07. Stay in for an hour? A cool dollar.

Obviously the barrier, particularly in that neighbourhood, isn't a financial one but perhaps a mental one. But if someone is pre-ordering their latte on the Starbucks app, they can certainly handle the Park Plus one too. Even my dad does the Park Plus app, and he's 74.

The parking lot directly south of the mall is still free.

Chatted with a client of mine in the Fire Department, he said they called the Ogden Legion 'An Asbestos Palace.' So...yeah. Rather flame ######ant.

Okay, cant use that word...'flame averse?'

Yeah, Monogram has been there for almost 10 years. And Native Tongue and Village Ice Cream seem to be doing well. So it seems to be a Starbucks thing.

Flame adjacent. Which was one of the options before the Flames settled on Wranglers.

The former site of the River Run condos in Eau Claire will be turned into a temporary green space while things with the green line get figured out.

It’s pretty much on par with DQ’s Blizzards.
