What to do with Daniil Miromanov
Using Puckpedia's Buyout Calculator, it would cost $416,667/season for two years.
Or you could pay him $1.2 million in the AHL.
He could go back to Russia and pick up a pretty decent KHL contract in the meantime.

He's under the threshold to go to the AHL and accumulate no cap hit.
No way you add a cap hit for two years to buy him out.

Naw. The Flames don't need him now, but what if Andersson is traded and there's a couple of injuries. The Flames will need warm bodies. Makes more sense just to pay him than to save 300k and potentially have to sign someone new.

Even if they could there's no point, just put him in the AHL

Ooh this brings up another pet peeve from Flames radio. Talking about how the cap means little this year as they have so much space but putting a guy like Miromanov's salary in the minors is not acceptable.

The flames could extract more value by trading him, 50% retained, for an draft pick. Even without that retention, he might have value at the deadline

Flames 1-way contracts that might end up on the Wranglers this year:
Forwards
Kirkland $0.9M
Defense
Bean $1.75M
Miromanov $1.25M
Solovyov $0.78M
* Kuznetsov $0.85M(starting next year)
Goalies
Prosvetov $0.95M
Cooley $0.78M
Then there are the AHL vets like Hunt making $400k, and Bishop $350k, making a bit more than the usual $80-150k.
Would there be a point where the owners try to limit the amount of spending on the AHL squad like Steinberg suggested? Or is it just the new reality of having multiple players on 1-way contract in the AHL for depth?

What's the threshold?
Found it ... NHL Min Salary + $375K = hurdle
775 + 375 = 1.15M
100K counting against the cap.

I think it's $1.15M but that is such a small difference anyway.

It's not a missed opportunity at all. They can waive him and someone takes the whole salary, or he gets sent down and the salary is buried.

Yeah point stands.
1 year of 100K (and a callup option) vs two years of close to 500K of cap hit.

Waive him and use as a depth in case of injuries or others not meeting expectations
Or for the big tank coming up for McKenna

I think you waive him and then trade him for anything or nothing. He should not take up ice time from Morin, Bru etc

Just waive him and if no one picks him up, send him to the Wranglers. Who knows, he may just refuse to report and the Flames can get out of the contract that way. If not, at least you have a depth guy you can call up later if needed.

Doubtful that any team takes him on waivers, has he's not very good and isn't young at 28 for a still developing dman.
Conroy thought he was worth a gamble, it hasn't worked out.
His contract is not a big deal, and likely not worth discussing.

I doubt it.
Calgary is $11m under the NHL cap with Miromanov, Bean and Kirkland on the roster so the owners are saving money at the NHL level anyway. I'm sure they might start asking questions if Conroy hands out a lot more NHL contracts that they need to bury as time goes on, but they probably are good encouraging competition so that the NHL results are better.

I’m sure they have an AHL budget, but who knows what that is.
I do think a Miromanov buyout would have made sense before the start of the year, he’s really not in the plans and I don’t see that he has a role in the AHL. Save some money and let him find a job elsewhere.
He won’t get claimed on waivers and doesn’t have trade value IMO.
