If the government is concerned with illegal immigrants working in the country wouldn’t it easier and more effective to just start fining the companies who hire them to resolve the problem?
Is that a bad idea?
It deters immigrants looking to enter the country illegally for work from entering if no one will risk hiring them, it raises money for government coffers and inevitably leads to a reduction in the need to spend tax dollars on detention centres, ICE agents, etc…
You won’t have people working illegally if companies stop hiring them, it’s that simple. This isn’t a chicken or the egg scenario.

Wouldn't it be easier to just get these people their immigration papers so they can continue to contribute to your economy?

I'm not really understanding what you're getting at. The pragmatic left supported Kamala's bid for the presidency while the extreme left fooled themselves into thinking they were helping Gaza by staying home. It's wrong to blame the entire left for what happened. Just because there is division among the left, doesn't mean the entire left is responsible for the division.
As for our province, the entire left unified behind the NDP, but unfortunately there are just simply more conservatives than non-conservatives in this province.

Retired vet so it's a mental health issue and not political violence.

Shooter’s son has a rare disease, very few facilities treat it. Maybe he was about to lose benefits, or was pissed that Trump has defunded research?

Huh? I wasn't conflating the two.
I just saw people making light of the situation. You don't have to cry, I don't care. Not like I was anything remotely close to being a fan. But there's an unspoken etiquette around the loss of life and tragic circumstances. The entire point of whatever I wrote ages ago was to say that if you can't show a modicum of respect about the seriousness of a life being taken, then it's probably better to say nothing.
Like why go there?
It's not about paying respects (again, who cares), it's about showing respect (towards the situation). Hopefully those two things can be distinguished.
Chalk it up to how I was raised, but I wouldn't talk #### about someone at the news of their death, or at their funeral. That level of resentment comes off gross and unhealthy. They're dead, what does it matter. It's not like the guy went around hurting anybody, he just talked - a lot - of dumb #### and people listened to him. Such is the state of America.
Now the one exception to the above could be in the event of Trump's passing. That will be a happy, glorious day. There are those rare exceptions.
A faux-intellectual activist vs orange satan himself are two pretty different levels of awful though. And the former had a loving family. As a human being, I feel bad for those children, who asked for none of this.

Yes. My comment was about the hypocrisy of the policy overall.

Maybe he didn't go around shooting anyone, but saying he didn't hurt anyone is pretty ignorant. He definitely targeted different communities and his rhetoric and saying dumb #### riled up people against those communities.
He propagated a culture of hate and fear and that definitely hurts people.

I haven't seen anyone who reads statistics seriously suggest Gaza made a difference, it was pretty low on most voters priority list. It's also questionable whether left "stayed home" in particularly large numbers.
If there was any one thing that really did Harris in, it was probably lining herself up with the most hated has-been ghouls of the conservatives. Everyone immediately hated it and it destroyed any chance of her credibly offering change in any direction anyone wanted.

There was a drop in overall presidential voting from 2020 to 2024, 155.5 million to 152.3.
Who were those voters? Did it make a difference in the result and why didnt they vote?

A good example of why Charlie Kirk's white replacement theory is so wrong.
They just don't have the legs.

Kirk was a Groomer of youth and young adults.
His whole gig was to increase the MAGA faithful while lining his pockets, nothing more.
He wasn't interested in honest discourse.
The world is a better place without him in it.

One could argue that the world is actually the exact same place without him. He was just replaced by....his wife.
The grift will continue just the same.

Charlie Kirk (and others) stepped in when Rush Limbaugh died. Someone will step in for Kirk. There are enough of these losers willing to make a career stewing up anger that someone will always fill the void.

I'm not saying you are wrong.
I'm saying I'm ok being a world without Kirk.
