Or they win today as well as the Yanks, trot out gausman tomorrow and lose. Given the Yankees are cruising to a win today there’s a greater than 50% chance they’re playing a Wild Card Series without a Gausman start available in games 1 or 2

Win tomorrow and you advance an entire round.

Save him for game 1 of the wildcard where if you win, you still need to win another game

Huge risk there. If offense goes inept you waste gausman and wild card is even more difficult.

I'm really surprised at how the Orioles are just rolling over for the Yanks. I thought they would try to play spoiler a little bit. Oh well.

I just don’t think you can roll over there, it’s too important to avoid that next series. I think you have to push all in if both teams win today, you are still in the drivers seat then. If you lose today though my decision would change.

Not really. It was entirely predictable over a week ago that the Yankees were only going to lose a game or two against the O’s and White Sox combined. You have a 100 game loser with some of their regulars out of the lineup in the White Sox and an O’s team whose record flatters them as they firesold players at the trade deadline and were trash against the Jays earlier this month.
The Jays needed to play over .500 ball the last couple weeks against mostly sub .500 teams. Being 20+ games over .500 themselves that should not have been hard at all. But alas the Jays $500 MM man has hit below .200 during that time and has an OPS around .500. Their catcher who has hit over .300 most of the year is hitting under .100, the Addison Barger Cinderella story has turned into a pumpkin, and this year’s big offseason acquisition has continued his early season trend after coming back from injury of being the biggest signing bust in Jays history. If not for George Springer and Varsho putting the offense on their backs at times they would be dead in the water before this weekend.

The exact same thing can happen in game 1 of the WC though.
Tomorrow would be like an extra bullet in the chamber to avoid the wildcard altogether.

At this point I would just start throwing at Diaz. If you can't get him out...at least make it painful.

Nice work by Yesavage to navigate that error. But it sure did run his pitch count up.

I believe in the Jays.

Great job getting out of that one. Not turning that double play cost him about 20 pitches though.

I think we're going to really like Trey Yesavage

Fun to see a pitcher clearly not have his stuff at the start but find it as the inning progresses.
Something I wish Hoffman could do when he starts cold.

And thanks to our players down in the lineup for bringing it today. The meat of our order could not look more off.
Ernie is such a stud.
